Where do you practice?
I live in town, and I cant shoot my bow in town, and even if it was not against the law, I just wouldnt have the room. We don t have a range anywhere near my home, and I dont know many people that live in the country that would let me shoot at their place. Any suggestions, on what I can do to get some practice in? I would really like to be able to shoot a few arrows every day.

RE: Where do you practice?
I shoot in my backyard. I live in a neighborhood. There are 3 houses on each side that have wooden fences. The fences connect to each other giving me room for up to 75 yards. I usually stand in the road and shoot 55 though!:D

RE: Where do you practice?
I have the luxury of a bow shop with an indoor range nearby. This may not be ideal for you, however check the yellow pages and see if there is not not nearby you.

RE: Where do you practice?
I practiced in the yard when I lived in town all the time.
I always put the back stop toward my own house or garage and shot. Figured if I tear up my own stuff it's nobody else's business. They must have felt the same because I never heard a complaint in any neighborhood I lived in. You'd be surprised how much more selective you are about your shot selection. Does a live animal desearve any less? |
RE: Where do you practice?
I have some property and shoot in my backyard. I'm going to bait this year and tag out here locally just to get even with the darn deer for eating my shrubury.
I have a good friend who lives in the middle of town with very little lot for a backyard. He has a tree right in the middle with a board for stand at about 15' He shoots 10 and 15 yrds max. Any more and he would be shooting into the neighbors house. Is that tight enough? |
RE: Where do you practice?
I live on a couple of acres, so we have plenty of room to shoot. I have 6 children, though...so rarely do I find myself with time to practice before bedtime. Here's how I make it work. My driveway is 40 yards long. I have a Hydra-Lift basketball goal at the end of said driveway...and it has an overhead light (to light up the basketball court). I simply plug it in...to light up my Block....and turn on the Afterburner on my Copper John Dead Nuts Pro. Presto-chango...a lighted, outdoor range. It's a little tough from 40 yards, but 30 and 20 are no problem.
Night-night..kids!!! Good luck! P.S. In my last house, I found out that if I put my Block in the hall bathroom, and shot from the counter in the kitchen, I could get 18 yards. As long as mama wasn't home, it was good enough for me!!!!!! |
RE: Where do you practice?
Good bow shooting is a result of good form. I have plenty of places to shoot, but choose to do my best practicing at about 10 ft.
|
RE: Where do you practice?
Wow, I now feel really fortunate to live where I do....on about 130 acres of land. :D No problem shooting in my front yard, backhard, side yards...I couldnt' imagine having to try to shoot in the house [:-]
THere is also a range about 10 minutes from where I work and go to school that I can shoot at. |
RE: Where do you practice?
In the yard.
|
RE: Where do you practice?
For now, the gun club. Can't shoot where I live because I don't own the property. Half hour ride, only get practice in once/week this time of year.

RE: Where do you practice?
Good bow shooting is a result of good form. I have plenty of places to shoot, but choose to do my best practicing at about 10 ft. If I practice in the basement, it is on form at about 5 feet. Not aiming, just practicing on form. Other then that I shoot in my yard, out the bedroom window, at my cabin, and at the range. |
RE: Where do you practice?
I try to shoot every day in the back yard, but i also have a spot about 2 miles from home thats around 400 acres that i can go to and practice or deer hunt. If its not deer season, then coyotes become off season quarry.

RE: Where do you practice?
I have a 20 yard range in my basement.
|
RE: Where do you practice?
50 yard lighted outdoor range in the back yard. 10 target 3d course though the backwoods with a 15' high 4 x 4 platform when I get the urge to practice from a stand.
|
RE: Where do you practice?
I am a member at the local shooting club. They have an indoor heated 20 yard range, and an outdoor range with targets out to 80 yards. They also have a excellent 3D course there and have competition all the time. I am fortunate to be close to them, like 3 miles.

RE: Where do you practice?
I shoot during the winter at our sportsman's club. We have an indoor league that runs 10 weeks that started 2 weeks ago.
Come spring we have an outdoor league and I shoot 3d. I also try to shoot at least a dozen arrows a day off my back deck at my 3d. |
RE: Where do you practice?
I shoot in my house when its too cold outside and also at a range set up by the lake just outside of town
|
RE: Where do you practice?
Bummer. Hope you figure something out. I didn't see where you live posted. There might be someone here that is close to you.

RE: Where do you practice?
I'm fortunate to have an archery club less than 2 miles away from my home. It has a 30 yard indoor, two outdoor field/hunter couses and a broadhead course with a 8 x 10' tree stand for fine tuning the broadheads. I try to shoot 3 to 4 times a week to keep the edge. www.hemlockfieldarchers.com

RE: Where do you practice?
I shoot down my drive way, into my garage. I live in town and although I have a big back yard with a wooden fence, I don't think it would be safe to shoot back there. I have a perfect 25 yd range in my drive way. The west side is lined with 15 ft bushes, and most of the east side is my house...very safe and very little wind. Only problem is if you miss the tartget completly....you usually break something or ruin an arrow.

RE: Where do you practice?
I shoot in my backyard. My grandson & I were out in the snow yesterday. Both of us were shooting. He gets me out alot.
|
RE: Where do you practice?
I usually shoot in the backyard or one of my treestands. Sometimes if I have a few friends over we will pen up the horses and open the hayloft doors and shoot from there. Then we have my 6 and 8 year old boys fetch the arrows, move the targets and bring up cold ones from the fridge downstairs. If we all give them a dollar or two they are glad to work as long as we shoot, then its their turn with their little recurves.

RE: Where do you practice?
I primarily shoot in my back yard. The local proshop has the DART video shooting system that I will sometimes shoot at. Man that thing is addictive.
|
RE: Where do you practice?
I used to shot in my backyard until I tried a "Hail Mary" and missed the bag. I figure the neighbor behind me was pretty pissed when he ran over that carbon arrow with his mower.
I joined a archery club that I shoot at now. Its about 5 miles down the road. I'm pretty lucky because the club is really nice, indoor lanes, outdoor range, and a 3d course well worth the $100 a year + work hours. |
RE: Where do you practice?
I am lucky to have a pro shop near by, with an indoor range. I site my bow in at the first sign of spring, get everything fine tuned and then practice in my driveway and shoot into my garage. (Only two misses in four years into the wall.) I can get up to about 35 yards without scaring the neighbors too much.

RE: Where do you practice?
I have the luxury of a lot of shooting areas from my 80 yard backyard range to the beach then up to 8000' elevation hills. I used to be a lot better at judging yardage before lasers. Every year we tune up for deer season at the beach and only use are rangefinders for verification. The sand is easy on broadheads and with the dunes and vegetation, it makes for the ultimate trail walk. The best part about the beach is learning to judge the wind. We get every variation and with my bow sighted in at sea level, I merely back the poundage of slightly as I rise in elevation and my bow stays perfectly sighted without having to mess with my pins. I picked up that pointer from a forum just like this. I guess I've got it pretty good after all.

RE: Where do you practice?
In the backyard at 25yds. I shoot from driveway to back corner of my yard. I kind of live in a small outskirt of our main city. However, I can also go down to our indoor club and shoot. I like to shoot outdoors though. It just resembles the atmosphere of hunting type shooting conditions vs. indoors.

RE: Where do you practice?
