Long Range Practice

The last 3 or 4 weeks before season I like to do all my practicing at a minimum of 40 yds, seems to make those 15-30 yd shots a gimme.Anyone else try this? Not saying I'd shoot game that far away, just practice. It really makes you pay attention to the little details.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I pratice out to 50 yds. This makes 40 and under shots a walk in the park! I will continue to practice this way.

i knew a guy who had a 70 yard pin. He said he was as accurate with it than any of the other ones he had. Thats awesome he said he took some nice bucks with it.

Long yardage shots during practice sessions will help with your control and holding, but don't think your short shots will be a snap. If your a tree stand hunter, your angle on the target increases and so does the difficulty in shot placement. Pick a spot as you do on long shots and you be on the mark for shorter ranges.

Good Hunting...

I like to practice back to 50 yds. I walk away from my target, stop, and turn around. Judge the distance and shoot. I use one pin, so shooting varying distance helps practice knowing where to hold.

Thats the right idea. You are right I pratice from thirty yards 98 percent of the time, and now I have started out to forty yards. It helps you consintrate better.

I practice out to 60yds and you are right it does seem to help on your short yardage.

RE: Long Range Practice

I usually shoot one group at 20 yards to start. Helps instill confidence. I then shoot all my groups, except the last one, from 30 and 40 yards. I then shoot my last group from 20 yards. Hopefully I can end the session on a good note.

I have never shot a deer further than 25 yards. I hunt in southern pines and hardwoods. It is thick and not many long shots. This practice sessions suits my hunting situation. If I were hunting out west or along large fields I would lengthen the practice distance out to 50 yards. Just my take on the situation.

good hunting

i practice at 50 yds. exclusively 95 percent of the time, when i move up to 20 and 30 it seems like a slam dunk, have to worry about busting knocks then.
