If you have the money and are looking to buy a new video camera for this purpose consider buying one that has a remote. That way you don't have a lot of movement to turn the camera on and start recording. I bought a digital camcorder online for about $499 and it came with a remote. I haven't used it for filming but it's small and would be great. One season a buddy and I took turns filming each other and we got him shooting a doe and me shooting a small six, and a lot of goofy pics of each other, and some nice scenary. FYI see how loud your camera is when it first turns on. Our very first hunt I was filming and we had a deer approaching the stand and when I turned the camera on the deer heard the tape whirl and she locked onto us big time! LOL. We also film most of our turkey hunts. We have us getting two toms at once on film, twice. You might also want to get a spare long life battery, camo netting, tree umbrella (got to keep the camera dry even if you get wet). Also check to see if your camera turns off automatically after a certain amount of time without recording. Most do, and that could lead to a missed picture if you don't know it's off. Good luck.

Me and a friend got some good footage last year but no kills. Its easiest if you both get in the same tree or a tree directly behind. We got awesome footage of a poor deer with a broken front leg that was just swinging. We really wanted to take her but she just wouldnt let us put her out of her misery.

The camera was a Canon Z40, a little out of date by today's standard. The Z90 can be had for about the same price range. I use www.pricewatch.com to find what I want and then go with the dealer that has the best reputation (via reviews) and price combo. Go to your local BestBuy/Curcuit City and look at the models, find which one fits your hand best and you like, ask your questions and then go buy it online. You will find the camera online usually for $200 less than in the stores. Good luck.

I started to video my hunts this past season. I got some cool video. My girlfriend likes to go out and sit with me and videotape. I got a doe with the bow on video, but that was the only kill shot, the rest were just pictures of nice bucks that didn't come close enough.

The ZR90 is a great camera! Very small and lightweight! It also has a remote. I got a great deal on it, for like $450.00!

Yeah the ZR90 is a good camera and I like the feel of the whole ZR series. It did get a hit in reviews for low light situations. Apparently after the ZR60 Canon changed the CCD chip or something and it doesn't perform quite as well under low light as the previous models did. That could be something to consider when filming hunts. Lots of low light situations. But I love my ZR and have used it for turkey hunting footage and it's just the right size. The Built-in steady cam feature helps stabilize the shots as well. They also have some of the best Optical (real) zoom in that price range. My sister bought the ZR95 and loves it. I'd still consider the ZR series, even with the low light limits.

And the ZR80 for $274! Count on buying an extra long life battery and a UV filter lens (protection from scratches in the wild) Also be aware that rechargeables don't do so well in real cold weather, very short charge life if it's cold <50 F.
