Default NBEF certification?

Well, I just found out that to bowhunt in South Dakota this year I have to have a National Bowhunter Education Foundation certification. I went to their website, and it seems you can only do part of it online. Does anyone have this certification? What was entailed in achieving it?

Check with your state wildlife agency that handles those sort of things. Here in PA you can take a State offered Bowhunter education course based off of the NBEF and the card you get for passing the test is good to hunt in any state that requires bowhunter certification.

In New York, to hunt this year I also have to pass this. Is there anyway to pass one of these online? I am required to do either NBEF or NFAA, or any states approved program that is bowhunting specific. My old PA or Vermont licenses that I had previous to their requirements for education were always OK and grandfathered me into those states without a bowhunting course....................

On one hand I am sure it won't hurt, but after 12 years of bowhunting it is hard to make the time for this...........

Since treestand safety, shot placement, bloodtrailing, and in some areas shooting proficiency are covered in the NBEF course, I do not think it would be possible to take an online course for the NBEF certification. The only way to know for sure is to contact the NBEF or your state NBEF chapter. As an instructor I always learn something knew from every course I teach, so it is a good course to take.

The Old web site used to have the courses listed and you could check the area your at to see if there where any around. The new web site your going to have to email the person listed under what state you live in to see when courses are scheduled.

The new online test is a portion of the NBEF certification. You still going to have to attend a class for the outdoor portion of the certification.

Yes, I took the class more years ago than I can remember. I'd like to see all states go to this requirement.
