Good outfitters?

Has anyone been to or know of any good outfitters in the mid-west that have good deer and don't run 50 people through every season?

We went to Hadley Creek in IL. Way too many hunters. 48 or so per week! The deer are there, but they are too big for their britches.

I feel there are many good outfitters out there that do run 50 hunters a year. It all depends on how ground you have. 50 hunters a season is not very many considering most bookings seasons run 10 to 12 weeks on average. If you find places that run very few hunters through typically they dont have the ground to support anymore. 48 hunters a week, now that is crazy!

That's what he is doing. I would much prefer to talk to someone that has been somewhere and hunted as opposed to hearing what someone says about themselves on a website.

I hunt right across the line from an outfitter. From one of my stands this year, I can see across alot of his land. I have no idea what the name is, but if I figure it out, I will let you know. I helped shred some fields for the same outfitter but at a different location, he's got plenty of woods and fields. He usually only has 3 or 4 people at a time.

When I saw this thread I thought the question would get more hits if they asked which ones should I avoid. It’s very unfortunate. Some private land I hunt on, (I was told) had some outfitter dropping people off there. The owner wasn’t happy.

I have bowhunted with them for the last 4 years in a row.
Larry prefers to take only 8 bowhunters in camp at a time.
I have a great time there bowhunting quality deer every year and will be returning there to bowhunt in the fall of 2005.
This is a Bowhunting only outfitter on their guided ground.

Yeah, that doesn't make alot of sence.

They all claim to be the best. I want information from my fellow hunters in the midwest that have been there, hunted them areas. Sounds like alot of people get hosed on these deals.

Though I have never went there before, I have spoken with Larry on a few occasions, and have talked with references. He seems to have an outfit that caters exclusively to bowhunters. I would also suggest consdering him.

Thanks for the info. It's good to hear that someone is having a good time with an outfitter.

We would have actually went with them, but we went on an Elk hunt instead. Best of luck. And ask to talk to some repeat customers who have not been successful.

You are correct on Larry Hanolds Hunting Unlimited Fully Guided Land he allows Bowhunting Only:D
My 1st year there were 8 of us bowhunters in camp.
2nd year I was the only Bowhunter in camp.
3rd Year there was 2 off us bowhunters in camp.
4th year there was 4 of us bowhunters in camp.
I also agree you should ask for non sucsessful hunters references .. also ask Larry to mail you one of their Videos, they will give you a great idea of what you are looking at in this outfitter and what the deer and deer numbers there are like and the place is like... a great aide when your outfitter shopping.

I think there are alot of good outfitters out in the midwest. I am looking into a possible 2006 bow hunt now as well. Although I wasn't crazy about the last outfitter I went with in IL, a buddy of mine went peak rut and has rebooked for 2 more years. He didn't take anything, but saw tons of bucks, passed on a few borderline shooters, and got busted by a bruiser. The deer are there. You just need to go at the right time of year. We went during the pre rut this year and were disappointed. The weather sucked too though. Not the outfitters fault. I will go back sometime, just to a different Outfitter.
