Yes it is kind of like having a scope on a rifle. Shooting with a release will allow for a smoother release, but a release also may be a necessity to prevent string pinch on a shot axle to axle bow.

I know that when I was able to use a bow, my groups were measurably tighter when using a release over fingers.

API RELEASE: "Darton unveils a new super bow with 99% letoff. It is the........"

Yup, they all come out with some kind of "release" fan fare in the magazines. It's necessary. MMmmmmmm ... Mmmmmm... Mmmmm..... ., Well you know which bows I mean, are really heavy in their releases. You know something like "Q2 rattles the Heavens and time stands still" Yup, releases are real important.

I started out with fingers, then went to a tab, and now finally use a release. Each time at least for me it was an improvement.I would say going from fingers to a release is alot like going from open sights to a scope on a rifle.

I used the finger release method for 15 years before switching to a release 7 years ago . Today's bows are getting shorter , making it more difficult to get a good clean finger release.
