RE: Poll on camo
Mostly Mossy Oak, some Advantage, some Skyline, a couple I don't even know what they are, and lately Natgear. I've gotten quite a collection over the past few years. Mossy Oak always seems to discontinue the pattern that becomes my favorite throughout the year. Originally it was Treestand, then more recently it was Shadow Branch. Now their both gone as far as I can tell. They used to have a collection that they called the "classics" which included the original paater, Treestand and Fall Foliage. It looks like thay have completely done away with all of them.

RE: Poll on camo
Apparition for late season in the stand(Cabela's fleece) I just love that combo and Realtree Hardwoods for any other time. I've notice this year in Cabela's master catalog that there is little to choose from as far as Hardwoods as there use to be!!

RE: Poll on camo

RE: Poll on camo
o use realtree and mossy oak. i dont really like advantage cuz i think it has too many leaves and not enough trees. in texas, the leaves never really change color and most of the advantage stuff has brown leaves all over it. ima try to make some of that 3d camo. anyone know where i can get camo fabric?
|
RE: Poll on camo
I love all mossy oak products and do have some realtree.
Would like to try some 3-D and leaf wear this year. "A archer sees how far away he can get and still hit the target while a hunter sees how close he can get before he shoots" |
RE: Poll on camo
I've been using Mossy Oak Break-Up since it came out and still like it. Before that it was the original Realtree and before that it was Jim Crumley's Trebark. Before that there was the good old woodland pattern. I still wear an old Trebark shirt from time to time on scouting runs.
For winter predator calling I use Natgear's winter pattern. If they come out with a Scent-Loc line, I may try their stuff for bowhunting. Until then, it's MOBU for me. Visit my hunting homepage.... http://www.geocities.com/hogshooter_2000 |
RE: Poll on camo
Depends on what time of year and what type of cover you usually hunt. Since you are from Florida, I'll assume you mean warm weather hunting. For early bow which started 9/2 in Delaware, I chose B, Hardwoods Green. The best green pattern I've ever seen.

RE: Poll on camo
Depends on when and where I use Bushland green or brown for Texas, Mossy Oak Forest Floor for early season here in Michigan, Maine and Montana. Later in the season I sometimes use Predator Fall Gray, Realtree Xtra Brown or Sticks and Limbs if snow is forecasted.
It just depends on your hunting area and what matches the area. Early is more greens and browns later is grays and dark colors. This year I am going to try a 3-D Suit, a mesh suit with leafs sewed on to it, the one I have on order and should be here by the end of the week has different liners you can add to it, scent lok type, water resistant, and bug proof. You can also add layers underneath for colder weather if need. They have a good variety or camo patterns to choose from. I decided on Mossy Oak Forest Floor. |
RE: Poll on camo
In an earlier post I put Mossy Oak but I will also be wearing the ASAT 3d suit

RE: Poll on camo
I use mossy oak forest floor and the reg. mossy oak green. I also have a pair of advantage pants.
I would like to see a pattern that would better simulate the areas I hunt. I live in Oregon and hunt mostly in the coastal rain forests we have here. Alot of doug firs and ferns. Mostly evergreens, not oakleaves. Anyone have some suggestions on some camo that might work better out here? Manufacturers are you listening? |

DeerT, or anyone else that would like more info on ASAT Camouflage, send me an e-mail and I'll get it to you.
Brand loyalty is great, but I see so many "educated" and really good hunters that will use a trendy brand, whether it works or not. Keep in mind how all the designer camo out was made. An artist copies the likeness of a leaf, bark, grass or whatever, and if it looks real they print it on clothing, airbrush some shadows under it and theoretically it is supposed to make you look just like that leaf or tree and make you disappear when you're in amongst the foliage. All the time this artist is sitting in his air-conditioned studio, never getting bit by a bug or having sweat roll into his eyes while he’s slowly moving his brush on the canvas from his treestand. The chances are pretty slim that you're even hunting in a woods that have that same species of that tree in it. Now try to remember how many times you've ever seen a deer, even scared out of its mind or near death, ever even come close to running into a tree? That's because deer know trees, upright cylindrical objects, better than anything else in their world. So why would we want to look like a tree? ASAT is the only camo out there that was invented for the very same reason we use camo at all, and that is to hide the human form. Have you ever seen ANY other camo company tell you how many hours of research into the actual science of what animals see and field testing they've done on their product. Only ASAT, because that's how it was invented. We certainly wouldn't win any "Prettiest Camo" contests for our pattern. Guys will spend literally thousands on their hunting equipment, research for days on what bow or release or sight works the best, yet, like football teams, win or lose, guys will stand fast for their loyalty. Anyway, getting down from my soapbox, and I didn't mean to offend anyone, all I’m trying to say is to be open-minded, chose what you use because it works and not for the logo. If you're interested in seeing what we have, drop me a line. Chuck Pensyl Smart Hunters Wear ASAT Camouflage [email protected] Edited by - fozzdik on 09/05/2002 12:29:12 |
RE: Poll on camo
I've used most brands of camo and shot deer in all of them. This year I'm giving ASAT a whirl. I don't think it's magic, but some of those pics are pretty impressive.

RE: Poll on camo
Nothing better than Real Tree. Hardwoods in the fall and Timber in the spring.
|
RE: Poll on camo
I'm using mainly 2 different outfits this season.......Advantage "Timber" 3D and also "Natgear" 3D ........will probably also pin some "Sneaky Leaf" fake leaves on the edges as well.
At 6'3" and 265lbs I need all the outline breaking help I can get! I probably look like a big dark blob in a regular dark camo pattern.......I wouldn't hesitate to use Predator or ASAT as well. I've used the Mossy Oaks and regular Realtree patterns succesfully, but always felt like I stuck out more than I should. |
RE: Poll on camo
i hunted with 3d camo last year and am very happy with the results. hard to tell if there is any advantage to the 3d stuff but i had several close encounters were the deer seam to look right through me and didn't get busted once all year

RE: Poll on camo
Do you guys really think it makes much of a difference what camo you use from a treestand. Most of us in this forum hunt whitetail deer and we do it from a tree. To take it a step further, the careful hunter doesn't select his tree at random. We generally try to pick the best available cover within the area for an ambush. Keep in mind the word ambush. With this in mind, I propose to you that it doesn't make one bit of difference what pattern you are using. It's all nonsense as far as treestand hunting is concerned, and designed to get more of your hard earned dollars. I honestly believe that on a number of deer that I have taken in the past I could have had a Bozo the clown outfit on and it wouldn't have mattered. I ambushed them! They never saw it coming! If you spend a good deal of your time on the ground however, that is a totally different story. Then camo selection is critical. Just trying to stoke the fires a bit.:) It's more fun than just "I use this camo" or "I use that camo". What do you think? Jimmymac:)

RE: Poll on camo
Even in a tree, wouldn't you rather look like this? Even in an ambush situation?

RE: Poll on camo
Realtree hardwoods mixed with Mossy Oak Breakup. I don't pay much attention as to what's what. Mix and match. The deer don't know the difference!
