Hey gang,

Did any of you see the world wildlife fund program on the tube saturday morning?

It was about Albertas Grizzly Bears. They talked about the hinton town bear Mary and her two cubs, and what a great example of how bears and man really can live together. Well...until Mary and one of the cubs were shot that is. Yup, looks like they live together real well. Anyhow, their scientist said he has never come across dead bears in the wild that died from natural causes...only by humans. Whether it be bullets, cars or trains.

Then they proceed to ask for peoples money to help "save the Grizzly Bear in Alberta" and call this toll free 1-800 number on your screen. Well i called it. I kinda feel sorry for the poor gal on the other end of the line with the accent. Especially when i asked her why the show was on T.V. in the first place?

They never specifically mentioned the bears were endangered or in trouble. However, the picture they painted was exactly that! Then they ask for your "help", lol, er, i mean, MONEY.

I asked the poor gal why this program about our bears was on t.v.? She tried to answer, it was pretty weak. I asked her if she actually knew anything about our population goals and where we were at? She couldn't answer. So i asked her if it was the show's intention to point out that our own wildlife managers can't do their job? Then i informed her that the citizens here already pay to have the bears properly managed and the managers are doing an excellent job. In fact our managers have probably done far more than could be expected for our bears as we have more than we have in a really long time and the numbers may actually be too high. This is where the gal starts to studder and say 'but, but' I said but what?

I told her i hope she's proud of her job, for ripping off the general public by tugging on their heart strings for no good reason(once again informing her that our bears don't need saving, they probably need thinning now as there is too many). I told her this "save the animals thing/send tax free money now" is simply the new milleniums 't.v. evangelism' and that their organization, and what they do to the public, is criminal in my eyes. By only giving out a tiny bit of totally distorted information designed to prey on human empathy and therefore open their wallets...i'm pretty sure she got the picture.

They go on about hunters/poachers etc. as the bad guy. When they are some of the worst predators on the planet. They hunt human beings, their own kind, they prey on us for money by tugging on our heart strings...that's as dirty and evil as it gets in my opinion.

She didn't have much to say. I don't think she was prepared. I didn't yell or scream, i just started askin her questions mostly, and when she couldn't answer any, i filled her in.

My girlfriend kinda put me up to it. I was waitin for her to get ready so i flipped on the tube. I wasn't gonna call them although the thought crossed my mind a few times, and she could overhear the show and she knew i must be gettin a little miffed. So she said "are you gonna call them or what?"...she was joking but that's all it took. The phone was right there anyhow. She bout fell over laughing when i got into with that poor girl. Anyhow, great saturday fun when your waitin for your gal to get ready to go. I highly recommend it.

Harrass the criminals i say, they aren't all in jail either, some of em are right there on t.v. with their phone numbers at the bottom of the screen!

Beautiful! Now send a letter to your paper explaining the same thing. Well said and well presented.

I just wish some of the outdoor organizations would put on a similar paid advertisement following these "shows" saying exactly what you just said!

There is the infamous WWF show on the "endangered red haired wolf" of Alqonquin park as well. That one makes my skin crawl as well. Proven through genetic testing there is no such thing as some subspecies called the redhair wolf that only lives in Algonquin park. Just a bunch of tree hugging, city slickers from Toronto who like to go sit in thier manucured campgrounds and hear wolves howl at night. (okay all you outdoorsmen who happen to live in Toronto relax. I'm not talking about you.)

Funny how you don't her them complain about the now extinct whitetail deer of Algonquin park? Why no deer you ask? Wolves decimated them completely and drove them out of the park. Used to be you couldn't travel across HWY 60 at night without seing tons of deer. Now you don't see a single one.

Won't invest my money with AGF mutual funds. "proud supporter of the WWF"
