RE: Large trophy animals
Sometimes there are legitimate questions that arise about how a trophy is taken. It can be a finacial windfall. Look at what Noel Feather did and many others like him have done. I guess all those shots heard at night are at Coyotes and Racoons.
I had a buddy that would work in Alberta every fall. I'll tell you there are deer on other peoples wall that this guy shot and this wasn't to gain the client money either, just bragging rights. |
RE: Large trophy animals
It does indeed seem a shame that a guy who hits the "whitetail lottery" would have to prove himself and his deer! What happened to the "innocent until proven guilty"? I do believe that simple jealosy fuels most of this. Some guys just can't stand to see someone succeed on a great whitetail. [&:]:( A great example of this is the local 293 3/8" B&C Muzzleloader monster that was taken this year. Scott Dexter is a good guy and a great hunter but some of the scum bags that work at the FARM KING store where he checked-in the deer were starting all kinds of rumor and spreading a bunch of crap! There is simply NO reason for that kind of bahavior! [:@]

RE: Large trophy animals
A lot of hunters are too "ate up" with big racks. Some of the poachers in our area were found to have their own big buck contest going with a very large cash prize. I've seen many a large buck brought into the checking station early the first morning with their eyes glazed over and half dry and sucked in. That doesn't happen in 2 hours. That kind of stuff is why a lot of people are skeptical. I've been on the receiving end of the jealousy though. I've taken quite a few large animals, all legal, and I hear comments here or there. I took a 150 class 8 point on the last evening in 2000. Left it in the truck overnight and we had a heavy frost. The eyes were still glassy the next morning due to the frost on them melting. When I took it in to the checking station the next morning a "pro shop expert" asked me if I took it that morning. First off a 150 class 8 in my area is huge. Second he had to say "I've seen better." Every one knows a "pro shop expert" , the guy who knows everything but has never taken a large buck. If I was hung up on horns I could shoot them every night at my house. I have a Biologic patch 50 yards from the house and there are always large bucks on it. I could simply turn on the light and shoot as they never run. I could not bring myself to do this no matter how large the buck is. Just my .02 cents.
