Let us know why the owls are bothering you. I have a huge horned owl that lives in the woods i hunt when ever he sees me he flys away. In the jungle wars they knew the enemy was around when they couldnt hear natures sounds, this goes for deer also if its too quit something is wrong. Let the owls be they shouldnt hurt your hunting at all.

Catch a talon to the back of the head one time and then tell me they won't hurt you

silentassassin...........seriously, you have been attacked?

I did have a great horned owl fly by very close one time, close enough that I heard his wings flap. Sort of scary because I didn't see him. Other than that I've had no problems.

Cougar,

I have been attacked twice. The first time the owl swooped at me and got real close but missed so he just flew ove and perched about 20 yards from and sat there watching me. I stood up and waived my arms etc. but it didn't fly off. So, I calm down a little later and the frigging things flies at me again. So about this time I am think it's time to abandon my post and I'll be darned if the thing didn't get me as I was climbing down the tree. It knocked my hat off and hung a talon deep enough that I bled like a stuck hog but didn't really need stiches. The second time is was basically the same deal only it didn't get a talon in me. On the owls second attempt I tried to play bowhunter baseball but I was unable to connect but it did seen to disuade it from trying again.

I bet that was a rush Silent.

I've seen owls and had then near me in the woods but never have I been attacked. For the most part they seem pretty timid. But then I've never had then repeatedly bother me. The way I see it you have two options. ! is to put up with them. 2 is to move on.

You might want to try and lure them away with roadkill (squirrells or the like)

I had a small screech owl land not 1 foot away from me at last light and sit there for a minute, I tried everthing short of knocking him off the branch ( didn't want a talon in the face). He finally left and returned not 5 seconds later, near my head.
I was a bit scared but I am glad it was not a great horn or something.

I have had small hawks roost very near me too. Sharpshins mostly. I like that. I pretend we are hunting buddies and I talk to them quietly. Uh oh, maybe too much information?
Well it does get boring up there sometimes.

I have had them bother me before too, but have since figured out the reason. When it is getting close to the end of legal shooting time and the owls are starting to get active they are looking for food. You are sitting in your treestand still as can be, except maybe you are wiggling a finger or something. Well you are still, in camo, and an owl looking for food sees this white thing (your finger) twitching every now and then.................to them it looks like food. They dont notice you too much because you are in camo and still..........but those moving fingers look like a mouse.
