Nub with arrow in him!
Very long and confusing story made short! He came by my stand in tow with his momma and I took a shot at her and I knew I missed! I watched them after the shot for 5 minutes. They jump off down the ridge. I got down to look and make sure it was a miss, I was right. My arrow clean as a whistle. The weird part: I walked over to an area where the two ran to after I shot, about 15 yards away and blood everywhere! I was pretty much confused. My 3 hunting buds came over and we followed this blood for like 7 hours! We went to both ends of the blood trail and nothing. This trail went for a long way, doubled backed, crossed a road and into the swamp refuge! Got permission from the DNR to look in the refuge and the trail ended in water at dark! I was bummed pretty hard as this would possibily become the first deer I would not recover! We decided to come back in the morning and look more. That evening when I get home I review the video tape of this hunt and I noticed an arrow sticking out of the button bucks left side. When they came in I noticed the scond deer was a nub I never looked at him again till the video footage. Boy was I suprised. He had an arrow in him already! Hard to tell from a still photo but is there! A severe angle down. I took this pic from my video camera. I wish I could post the video but I don't know how. Just thought I'd share a hunting pic and story with ya! Good Luck!
Anyway this is the first time I used photobucket, hope it works! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...l/IMG_0110.jpg |
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
Video does not lie. I think that is one of the best things I have ever done was to buy a video camera and a Tree Pod mount for the camera. It adds a whole new dimension to the hunt. Ive been told that it ads movement and all that but it really is not that complicated. Just set the camera to standby and hit the record button. It solved a mystery for you that would probably still have you second guessing yourself. If you never have considered a tool like this you should. As a plus you will be able to share a lot of your hunting experiences with your friends and family. Especially the non shooter deer and other wildlife you encounter.

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
Wow! cant really see the arrow but do notice the nub, They are some tough animals. I guess he mended hisself when the bottom half was dead and dangling. Awesome animals.

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
I know its hard to tell but if you look you the dark hole on his left side by ribs! That is the entrance hole and the arrow sticking out of it. It almost looks like a stick or branch from tree but it is an arrow. This deer is standing about 45 yards from my tree! Good luck!

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
I see it now, WOW hes unstoppable call the national guard
|
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
How about that, never seen that before
|
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
I still dont see any arrow. I see a stick that looks like an arrow, But I cant believe thats an arrow, It would be a LOOONNGG arrow if it was.

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
Believe it man it's true!
|
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
Man that,s right there in the bread box. Must of had a 20 pound bow.
|
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
Are you referring to the mark (hole?) behind its shoulder? Or is it the long stick (arrow?) angling down behind the last rib?
That is an amazing story... |
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
If I'm seeing this correct ,I can't believe that that arrow didn't do enough damage to cause this deer to expire .I'm speaking about the mark right behind the shoulder that kind of look's like part of a branch.
I've just checked the pic again ,now the spot I'm thinking of is behind the shoulder ,but I see another spot behind the back rib ,which I'm now figuring is the spot your talking about. nubo |
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
yes the hole and yes there is an arrow sticking out of that hole. The deer is getting ready to turn to his right and bail, that is when you can really see the arrow. As he turns the arrow goes with him! I'm trying to get a better pic but he gets blurry when I do a frame by frame. This is a photo that I took today from a video footage. This happened like the 1st week in Nov.!

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
Hey nubo, right in the boiler room! The arrow lines up almost perfect with the thicker branch on top. There is alot of the arrow sticking out of the deer!

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
He's one heck of a tough animal then .Never seen a pic quite like this before .Great photo work bowhuntingfool. I hope you can a better pic ,you've got my interest now.

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
I see it now. It looks just like a branch coming off the tree, but if you look closely you can see the fletching. They are tough as can be. The bull me and my dad shot this year had a muzzleloader ball in it, and a broken off arrow, and was doing great. He had a herd of over 20 cows, and some fat, as much as can be expected right after the rut. They are unbelivable.
|
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
I STILL dont see it. Make a picture with an arrow pointing at the arrow or something. Or atleast tell me where the fletching is, so I can or something.
|
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
I see no fletching in any photo or video, just the carbon shaft. If you look right in the boiler room just behind the left shoulder a tad bit high there's a dark spot(hole) with a thin shaft sticking down into it!
heres a different angle! You can see a busted off arrow shaft. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...shot0122.jpg:D |
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
Is the arrow where the blue or green cross hairs are? If your talking about the green one, That looks like an awful small carbon shaft.

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
Green! The blue looks like dried blood or what not, also looks like some leaves caked on his side! I agree about the thin carbon! I just watched this footage over like 25 times again. Slow motion, frame by frame. He is a good distance away! I agree it is hard to see. Also notice the steep angle? When he turns and runs he is spotless on his right side, but BLOOD everywhere he was standing, then when he ran it got spotty for a long while. Seemed to be movin pretty good except when he first turned and ran. He would come down pretty hard his first few leaps!

RE: Nub with arrow in him!
I dont think thats an arrow. Im not sure what exactly it is but its not an arrow. Im not saying your story is made up. I just dont think it's an arrow. Thats an AWFUL thin carbon arrow if its an arrow.
Im studing the pics, could it be a stick stuck in the wound? The more I look at it, the more im convinced its not an arrow. But oh well, its past my bed time. Ill talk to you tomorrow!! |
RE: Nub with arrow in him!
