whisker bisket
does anybody use a whisker bisket and how do you like it? I've had problems with my arrow falling off my rest.
|
RE: whisker bisket
where do i start! the WB is an awesome rest. there were complaints about the rest with fletching with the first models but newer bristles in the B2 bisquits virtually eliminated the problem. if you get it have it installed by your proshop if you have not installed a rest before. some people blame fletching wear and poor arrow flight on the rest where 99 out of 100 times the rest was not installed properly [this is not a statistic or anything just a personal opinion i have come to after hearing problems with the "rest"] . i would get the Quickshot model it is a major convience.
you should also try and do a search on the rest numerous topics can be found on the rest. |
RE: whisker bisket
I too have a whisker bisket and love it. I have had no problems what so ever. As ShootemUp has stated, make sure it is properly installed and aligned. Check your arrow through paper to make sure it is tracking right, adjust accordingly then enjoy it. No more falling off the rest. Get a good silicon spray lube and keep it sprayed down and this will help keep the fletching from wearing quicker when shooting a lot. make sure you spray it a few days a head of time before heading into the woods as well. SOme sprays do leave a smell for several hours.

This should help you out a bit. |
RE: whisker bisket
I had to be sold on the WB from my proshop at first, but once I started using it I loved it. It is so nice not to have to worry about that arrow coming of when your watching the deer and reaching for the bow at the same time, or starting to draw back and the arrow falls off. Absolutly not a problem with the WB.

RE: whisker bisket
I agree as well. It's a good choice for bowhunting. When the bow's properly tuned (as suggested here), there's virtually no adverse impact on flight. I have the old model and trimed some whiskers off the back. I've shot probably 1000 arrows through it and taken five bucks. All shots were pass-through, ranging from 10 to 35 yards.

RE: whisker bisket
I love it, it eliminates the accidental clattering of your arrow when you shift positions or ready yourself for the shot. I have an older compound and I tried 3 different rests (I'm a cheapskate when it comes to some things...) After trying them, and realizing that they were costing me WAY more than a WB because I had to keep paying to refletch my arrows, I finally broke down an bought one.
It helps me out a ton especially because I am new bowhunter and it makes me have to think about one less thing when I am preparing for a shot. It also improved my accuracy because it ensures that your flights aren't scraping on anything, once I put my WB on (I got a quickshot also, once again, less time involved and less to think about), my arrows stayed in A-ok condition and I started hitting the target a LOT more! LOL It may cost a little more, but it sure is worth it. For what it's worth, Wal-Mart is the cheapest place I have found that carries it. I got mine for $32, and they wanted $40 at Gander Mountain, and $60 () at our local archery range/supplier. If you haven't mounted a rest, get it done professionally, they only charge a few dollars and it's well worth the peace of mind. We did it ourselves and then had the pro's check it out to make sure it was installed properly, they didn't charge us for that and it was right on. BUY ONE!!! You won't regret it. |
RE: whisker bisket
I have a Matthews Outback with a whisker biscuit and I absolutely love it. I won't use any other type of rest.
|
RE: whisker bisket
I use it, it's perfectly tuned, and I love it!
No warping of the fletchings no crazy flight, no loud sounds. Just a awesome rest with no worries of a falling arrow! |
RE: whisker bisket
I have been wishing for one. My successful bowhunting buddies are telling me to stay away from them, saying they affect flight on 30 plus yard shots. After reading all these posts, I'm about to try one. Thanks
|
RE: whisker bisket
I think your friends are either misinformed or just making stuff up. Why would they effect the arrow on shots past 30 yards? It's not like the arrow would say "well, here's 30 yards I think I will turn to the right this time". Once the arrow leaves the bow nothing on that bow has any effect on the arrow. Educate your friends.;)
They are a great no nonsence rest that has no moving parts to fail or break. |
RE: whisker bisket
Great rest.
I have zero complaints. Accurate, silent, solid, simple, holds arrow, and is easy to adjust. What else is there?? I shoot mine on a Bowtech Patriot with no trouble. Both my brothers got them this year and they are completely satisfied. The only one that didn't care for my WB is the buck I used it on ;) |
RE: whisker bisket
After reading dozens of reviews I installed the Drop Tine QD on my older PSE and couldn't be more pleased. I have not experienced additional vane wear, noticeable drop in f.p.s., or an increase in noise level. My groups improved at the range but on stand is where the WB shines. My new bow will wear a biscuit.

RE: whisker bisket
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, bigbulls. Giving my friends, who do come back with elk every year, as much credit as possible, what I'm thinking they meant was that it affects trueness every time, but it takes a longer shot for them to notice it. Seems to me a paper test would answer the question. Either way, like I said, I'm going to get a WB.
Thanks |
RE: whisker bisket
I use one also and i love it i couldnt beleive how easy it was to get tuned for me...i used to use a flipper type rest and the reason i bought the whisker bisket is cause i had a chance a big buck and my arrow fell of the rest[&:]...not no more... great rest i highly recommend it;)

RE: whisker bisket
I JUST GOT ME A WB THIS PAST YEAR AND HAVE NOT P[UT IT ON... MY LOCAL BOW SHOP TOLD NOT TO EVEN BOTHER WITH IT. BUT I HAD GOTTEN ONE ANYWAY FROM ALL THE GOOD REVIEWS I AM GOIN TO HAVE IT ON AT THE END OF THIS SEASON ALONG WITH MY NEW SIGHTS

RE: whisker bisket
Well I am in the minority that did not care for the Whisker Biscuit. As mentioned above, the simple design and ability to hold the arrow are great benefits for bowhunting and I was excited to try it out. I bought one and before installing it I shot 5 ends at a target face with field points and kept score of my arrows and marked the size of the groups. I then installed the WB, checked the flight through a paper test, shot a few arrows to adjust the sights, and shot 5 more ends at 20 yards. My groups were definately worse and my score was several points lower. I was a little bit concerned that maybe fatigue had caused my shooting form to slip a little so I the next day I repeated the test but this time I shot the first 5 ends with the WB. I then switched the rest back to my normal rest and shot 5 ends and the score/groups were again worse with the WB. I repeated this a couple more times over the next few days and every time I shot slightly worse with the WB.
The WB does not allow the proper "archers paradox" and there is obviously fletching contact each shot. I have my normal rest setup for zero fletching contact and I think that for those that demand the absolute in accuracy the WB may not the best choice. At 20 yards I don't shoot at the same spot, but if I did all my arrows are normally touching each other. With the WB my groups were probably 3" in diameter, not terrible but I am not willing to compromise ANY accuracy. Now having described my situation above, I do think the WB may be one of the best choices for the average hunter. I shot target archery for years and I am probably more critical of performance. And I suppose maybe the slight loss in accuracy is worth it to obtain the other benefits of the rest? |
RE: whisker bisket
Blodg,
So in your test you did not even the tiller of the bow, and you did not move the nock point so the arrow was 90degrees to the bowstring, you shot whatever arrows you used to shoot regardless of spine and prior rest requirements. And the whisker biscuit still managed to give you a 3" group at 20yards. Imagine what the results would have been if you tuned the bow to work with the biscuit instead of against it. Good luck hunting >>>------------> |
RE: whisker bisket
Arrowman, my tiller is always set even top and bottom. But no I did not adjust the nock point and yes I did use the same arrows. Arrow spine specifications are based on your draw weight, cam type, and arrow length. I have never heard of having to change the spine of your arrow depending on what rest you are shooting. But I do believe that a stiffer arrow would fly better with the WB because it does not allow the arrow to bend properly under the force of the launch. A properly spined arrow is SUPPOSED to bend at launch and the WB does not allow it.
I don't remember the instructions saying to adjust the nock to 90 degrees but maybe it did. Maybe I will try it again this summer when I have more time to test. |
RE: whisker bisket
Well i have been bowhunting for over 23yrs. And with out a doubt this is the best hunting arrow rest i have ever used!
|
RE: whisker bisket
My son and I both started using them this after using drop aways. We both love them. It was really nice to not have to worry about your arrow while holding your bow and before shooting. I bought one this month for my other bow. Just to let everyone know Weaknecht Archery who has a web site sells them cheaper than any place I could find at $39.95 for the QS Drop Tine.

RE: whisker bisket
Blodg,
I am glad to hear that we are on the same page when it comes to bow tiller. The hole in the center of the biscuit is only a few thousandths larger than the arrowshaft, so the biscuit is probably has more in common with a gun barrel then the rests you are used to using. Any added flexing of the arrow shaft as it goes through the rest is only going to insure more shaft and fletching contact with the rest. Presenting the arrow to the rest from the 90degree position on the bowstring should on the other hand, provide the least amount of fletching contact with the rest. I tested the new B-2 biscuit this last spring with a Hooter-Shooter to hold the bow. At 35yards shooting the same arrow 12 times in a row, the arrow hit the same hole 12 times. A good target rifle with a scope would not have done any better than that! Good luck hunting! >>>------------> |
RE: whisker bisket
I have used th WB for 2 seasons now and love it. It's great for hunting.
|
RE: whisker bisket
I am really pleased with the WB.
I shoot an XTec and shoot 1 inch groups consistently. The only complaint i would have is that the WB is very hard on fletching. |
RE: whisker bisket
Standsnblinds; I just started useing the WB this season and I'll never use any other rest again!! Replacing fletching once in a while is very minimal to having your arrow falling off of your rest while the biggest buck of your life walks right by you!!! The very best thing about them I think is if you are hunting from an elevated tree stand---the arrow holds perfect--and it's one less thing you have to worry about as you're at full draw waiting for the animal to get within shooting distance. My Parker and WB are a permanent partner for life!!!....:)

RE: whisker bisket
love mine
it does put some wear on the feathers, but I can live with that. they still shoot fine with the wear. I might have to replece the fletch on my practice arrows every year or 2. no big deal. |
RE: whisker bisket
I forgot to add that now that the season is winding down in some areas archery supplys are going on sale. I just won the bid on a brand new drop tine WB Camo on EBAY for $19.95 with $3.95 shipping---can't beat that deal with a stick!!!! This is the perfect time of year to start picking up your next years supplys----for a huge discount compared to what you'll have to pay before the next season starts again!!!! Sorry if it sounds like I'm pushing EBAY down anyones throat but I've gotten some amazing deals through there for far less than is possible at any store out there----even on their sale prices!!!!! Just type in Archery Accessories and check out all the deals they have.
