RE: Tree Stand Stolen
Just a question David, but what public land are you hunting?
Here in IL, the whole Shotgun season gets rather crazy, I like the nice peaceful bowhunting, where you usually don't see another hunter. But when it comes to the gun season, anything is possible!
I would get some really good locks, or get a climber.
Good Luck

just so everyone knows, there is no lock that can't be broken/cut/destroyed with little effort. my cordless saw-zall will go through any lock/chain/device you can think of to secure your stands to the tree. im not saying that i go out with a saw-zall and steal treestands from people just that it can easily happen.
anyways sorry about your treestand David. now lets get some more points on the board for Team 10. hows the hunting been besides the treestand incident?

Leaving a stand w/ climbing sticks on public property? You almost have to assume it's going to be gone. At least the land I hunt. I wouldn't expect it to make it through one weekend of gun season (not bashing gun hunters, i'm one too).

Thanks for all the advice. And yes, I blame myself as well. I put too much faith in peoples honesty and respect for others.
It was in Marseilles, LaSalle county to answer that question.
I am going completely portable. I have a new Summit Climber coming on Friday. 17lbs and upgraded to the thick padded shoulder straps.
And again yes, out of anger I generalized an entire group of hunters for the bad choices made by a few. That is wrong and I'm ashamed at myself for taking that route. But I'd still love to meet with the jerk who thought he was more deserved of my stand than me.
I'm taking my climber this weekend and heading up my same tree to at least salvage the gear hook strap that's still left up the tree. Then I've got to find a new spot to call home for the rest of the season.

David: As I have only hunted public property once, and will hopefully never hunt it again, I do not trsut a person that comes and hunts there, I had them sit down within 40yds of my treestand, Climbers are the only way to go on Public land.
Never hunted Marseilles before, driven past it a lot, looks like a decent place to hunt. But I take the same precautions with any public land area. It would be nice if you could trust everyone, but you can't....[&:]
Good Luck
