Accidental drop test...

It's embarassing, but I did something this season I'd never thought I'd do. I'd been hunting pretty hard the last week and wasn't getting much sleep. I was in a familiar tree, oh, about 25 feet up. Now, I've dropped things before, the arm guard while putting it on, drop a flashlight, things like that, but I'd never, ever dropped my bow... well...

About 30 minutes into a particularly cold evening hunt, I put my hands in my coat pockets. I wear fingerless gloves and the wind chill was bad. I always hold my bow and had it across my lap. I musta dozed off just for a second or two. Have you ever startled yourself when your head nods and then you wake up? Well, I recall that, with the sound of something passing across fabric. It was my bow, figuring it was time to get down, but without the rope. It was almost slow motion... all I could do was watch it go... a back flip with a half twist. The arrow was still on the string and made a couple neat flips of its own after bashing into the earth. All I needed was a panel of judges to hold up the score cards and it would have been complete. I'd have given it an 8.5 for technique alone.

I got the bow home and into the press for a once over. Fortunately, I was on the edge of a farm field and the soil was soft. The upper idler was encased in dirt and I was afraid the limb may have contacted a root. I was glad to see everything was in good shape. A bit of cleaning, a check for bent cams and out to the target for a sight in. I dialed it back in and was able to fill my last tag with it three days later.

So, just out of curiosity, I'm wondering if anyone else has ever drop tested their bow? [8D][&:]:)

I dropped my bow out of my stand as well this year. Knocked my sight loose and busted my stabilizer off. I have yet to get it shoot right again.

Hasn't happened to me yet. I am a "don't put your self in a situation where your bow can fall" nazi though. I always hang mine from a hook or hold it in my hands. I don't believe those stand brackets give the security I need.

It's happened to me a couple of time's ,the pu;; rope only has a cheap plastic clip and the wieght of the bow verses the clip caused the rope to let go,so now i wrap the rope around the bow 3 times and this seem's to help.Luckily there was no damage done .

I dropped mine last year, it landed soft as a feather rolling forward as it hit and just laying itself down. You were fortunate, I know a guy who fell asleep this year and didnt wake up tull he was hiing brush on his decent, he was fortunate only 8 staples and tons of stitches to fix him. He pretty muck ripped his forehead and scalp off.
Scary....be careful!!!
