Incredible story !!! CONGRATS !!! You are a fantastic young lady with undoubtly a great future ahead of you. That boyfriend of yours better not let you slip away. Your story truley inspired me after I had a tough bow season. I wasn't going to go second season bow season up here in Wisconsin, but I am now. I actually logged on to share (whine) about my near awesome hunt that went south, but after reading your story... I thought why waste everyones time. I was 31 when I got my first deer. Congrats again !!!! Not suprising from a resident of a red state.

Your website is awesome.

Best of luck in the future and welcome to the board.

Way to go Amy. Let us know when you get it mounted. I would love to see what it ends up looking like. Your other work is very good. Now see if you can get the rest of your family involved in bow hunting. It is very addicting.

Congratulations Amy, but why did you change your username? I'm assuming you forgot your password? Nice story and good photo's. Post a pic when you get it done. And by the way, Happy Birthday.

BTW - whats the purpose to cutting/shikking the deer like that Amystaxidermy ?? I've never seen that
I think she is going to make a full body mount. It is probably easier to hide the incision at the top versus the thinner belly hair. Just my guess.

Hey everyone!

I am surprised at the amount of response this thread has gotten. You people are all so nice, I appreciate your support. I am definately addicted to hunting now, and hopefully I will get another one this year. Even if I don't, though, I'm happy since I've gotten my first deer now! I have never been so happy as when I found that deer at the end of the blood trail. No one else in my family hunts but I'm going to try to get my 8 year old sister, Hannah, into it. She is very interested in hunting, and taxidermy, and likes to watch me and help out whenever she can. I have taken her squirrel hunting with me before and she really enjoyed helping me track the deer yesterday, I have her to thank for alot since it would have taken me longer to find it without her help.

Stealthycat-- I cut the deer like that because it's easier to hide the stitches in the longer back fur as opposed to the belly, like Livbucks said. It's also a whole lot easier to get the hide on the body form with an incision like that.

And Rob- I changed my username because something is wrong with the old one. I didn't forget my password, but it just wouldn't let me login. It's been like that for weeks. Rather than try to figure it out, I just made up a new name. Hopefully that won't happen to this one.

-Amy

Boy, I tell ya - you get one pretty face on this board and the guys go nuts.

In all seriousness, congratulations. You'll always remember the first one. Your taxidermy stuff looks quite impressive.

Happy hunting.

Congrats on your first deer Amy and on teaching yourself and not letting anyone discourage you! I can understand where you are coming from not having anyone in the family who hunts. My family is the same way. I don't know where I caught the bug but I had it at an early age and it was just something I had to answer. We need more women like you in hunting (and on this board so stick around!) I wish you were a little closer to me, I would love to send some business your way.
