well guys i had a eventful evening last nite, i was in my stand at 3:30 figured it would be a good nite, the deer started moving about 4:15 and i had a few nice does walk by me but being early i decided i would wait and see what else was moving. even had a nice sized flock of turks come thru well as the day started to grow short i heard something behind me walking up one of the major runs that i am set up on. i knew it was a deer so i gave a soft grunt didnt take long for a reply. as i waited i could hear this buck thrashing the bushs and under growth he was definatley irretated well it took him about 20 minutes to circle around and show himself, when i first spotted him he was 50 yrds from me but he was closing the distance fast, all of a sudden at about 25 yrds he slammed on the brakes and started looking up the trail that i walked in on he stayed there for what seemed like hours.. then he started walking back the way he came so i hit the grunt 1 more time, it did the trick he turned around and started coming back well at the same time he caught the smell of the scent wicks i had hanging nose in the air he turned broadside and started what i thought would be his last 5 yrds, i came to full draw and had my pin on him i knew as soon as he got past the bushs he was behind i had a clear 20 yrd shot he stopped looked over his shoulder and took 2 more steps,, all of a sudden the crack of a rifle shot rang out and i watched him go down i lowered my bow and just stared in disbelief,, as i sat there i see this jack@#% come walkin up to the deer rifle in hand, at first i wanted to get down and ask him what in the world he was doing but i figured i would be better off not saying a word,, well i gathered my stuff together and got down snuck out of my stand and headed back to the parking area, when i got to the car imagine my suprise when i see a dark green truck parked there waiting was the local dnr officer well he gets out of his truck and goes thru the whole let me see your license routine. he then asks me who was shooting a rifle in the woods i told him some retard had just shot a buck.. he then told me that there had been numberous calls about poachers in the area over the past week and that he was pretty sure he knew who it was .
well i then told him exactly what had happened and he asked me to walk him out to the area, i agreed well we walked out there and now this guy has his buddy with him and they are laughing and carrying on. so when the dnr officer walks up and tells them to put there hands on there heads the just froze like statues, then the idiot that shot the deer says officer whats the problem,, i couldnt believe he said that, well to make this long story a bit shorter his exscuse was he thought because during gun season you can hunt with a bow that he could hunt with a gun during bow season. i wanted to smack this idiot and i think the officer did as well i just cant believe there are morons in the world like this,, needless to say he wont be in the woods anytime soon and as well he will loose his truck guns and hunting license as well as a little jail time, sorry this is so long but i really needed to vent ,,

Glad the moron got busted! You definately did the right thing by sneaking out undetected. Approaching a poacher with a gun and his hand in the cookie jar is a situation to be avoided.

Sorry to hear this idiot spoiled your excitement that way.I'm also glad he got caught as well and it look's good on him .Unfortunately you never got the buck ,but there's lot's more in the bush so good luck on getting him.

It's too bad sometimes about the rules of "using force" for officers. If not for them, it sounds like the warden may have slammed the butt of the poacher's rifle into his forehead for saying something so COMPLETELY STUPID....how thick can ya get?? OMG... and yeah, I agree....NEVER let him hunt again...oh but wait, the laws didn't bother him before, why would they now??? lol Ever hear the saying??? "Stupid is FOREVER...Ignorance can be fixed!" hahaha

Yea he'll loose his stuff (anything he used to carry out this crime, ie truck, gun etc) but most likely will get that stuff back and a slap on the wrist when he goes to court [:@]. Judges just don't take this crime seriously [:'(][:@]. DS, did he have his truck parked near you, how were you going to handle it had the GW not been there in the parking area? You definitly did the right thing by avoiding a confrontation with this louse, his buddy whom you didn't know was there also would/could have been an unpleasnt surprize during a confrontation. Good job and hope he gets at least 30 days but I dought he will serve even 1 day. BTY, tell us about the buck.
