Hunting High wind!!???
#1
well the wind is up here in PA , like 20 + MPH and the rut is in full swing , i was just wondering if any of you guys had tips on how to hunt in the high winds? I have seen some bucks , but not like usual in the rut , is the wind effecting the big boys movements? And is there any special setups or nething to do in high winds to better the chances of seeing the booners?

alot of folks don't hunt in high wind, i dont care for the wind but that is not going to change what a buck will do during the rut, the only thing i have noticed is it seems deer are more cautious in higher wind, but i'm still going to hunt.
best of luck, and i know for sure you won't have any luck if you don't go

derr are way more cautious in high wind it limits there hearing ability and there vision since everything in the woods in moving it hard for them to pick up the suttle movements of predators but from all the things i have read its a great time to try the spot and stalk method

If you are in a safe tree there is no reason to not hunt high winds in the rut.
Myself I wouldn't hunt high winds pre or post rut but anytime in the woods during the rut is time well spent.
I have never saw a mature buck in high winds but many young bucks and does.
If the does are moving so are the big boys.
Good luck!

Its the rut, the deer are chasing, get out there. As long as you are in a safe tree there is no reason to avoid the winds in the rut. I was out yesterday, shot a doe that was being chased all around by a buck.

I nailed an 8 pt yesterday in the high wind. I was on my way to an afternoon stand when I saw him. I stalked up on him,the wind helped cover any noise. Nailed him at 15 yds. The bucks were chasing the does hard yesterday. I saw 2 does get breed in the same area. This occured after I arrowed the buck and was sitting down and waiting for a while. They buck went less than 50 yds.
