That's an awesome story and an even better buck. Congrats! Seeing as though you're now the biggest entry in the contest, it gives the rest of us something to shoot for. Which means none of you guys should be shooting deer that score less than 162". :D

Ohio sure does produce some of the prettiest deer in my opinion. However he doesnt look like he is in the 160's to me. I would have guessed him at 145. Maybe the pics just dont do him any justice. congrats on that fine deer, u lucky dog![:'(]

I thought the same thing when I first saw the pictures, but if you really look at them closely that deer has some pretty impressive length on his G2s and G3s, not to mention his main beams. I have no problem believing he's a 160 class buck. Definitely an awesome deer.

Those main beams are really what picks up the score on this deer. I love the way they wrap around and almost touch in front.

I guess after 5 pages of "Congrats", another "congrats" is still in order for a buck like yours! You must have read the stickie on how to take pics too (except maybe the wipe the blood off his nose and mouth) because the pics you posted are good ones too.

But , I also feel that deer wont score over 145. Look at the entry for team #20 and the score of that buck and tell me he(from team #20) doesn't own the "biggest buck" title right now.

Look buddy I am not going to argue with you or anyone else.
If you can't read the score sheet I posted it's no ones fault but your own.

If you add JUST his main beams it adds to 51 1/8
now add spread 51 1/8 + 18 6/8= 69 7/8
now add just his mass measurements 33 3/8 + 69 7/8= 103 2/8
now add his brow tines 103 2/8 + 8 3/8= 111 5/8
now add g2's 111 5/8 + 19 5/8= 131 3/8
now add g3's 131 3/8+ 17 6/8= 149 2/8
now add his g4 149 2/8 + 3 4/8= 152 6/8
now add his 2 split brows and his kicker off the base. 152 6/8 + 8 5/8= 161 1/8

With a ton of deductions he will net mid 130's.

Numbers don't lie and here they are once again.

Maybe your taxi guy made a mistake?

I've assisted our local scorer with many many bucks every year and when someone brings in a photo of a dandy buck with nice mass it's clearly evident before even seeing the deer in person. With an 18" spread and reasonable tine length it takes a ton of mass to break over the mid 150's and I dont see that type of mass in any of your pics.

I have saw that pic it is a fine buck. As I said in the origional thread of his harvest.

I wouldn't consider 33 3/8 great mass. I would call it good mass.

It isn't so much the mass that makes his score. Its the long main beams, decent tine length, 12 points and nearly 9 inches of abnormal points. It all adds up.

How about drive on down from packer country and measure it yourself, and be sure to bring your buddy since your only the "helper". :D So come on down!!

I believe you, b/c I know how pictures can be deceiving, I have seen it myself. But here is a pic of a deer I shot a few years back, his main beams are 27 5/8 and 26 6/8, he has a 18 2/8 inside spread. He unofficially grossed 157 3/8 typical and netted just under 135, and officially netted 168 6/8 non typical. But like I said earlier I am not doubting it, I just can't see it myself. It is a great deer non-the-less. Congrats and good luck on your doe.

Remember this is gross score.

Take the gross typical frame score then and add all the non typical points to the typical score for the total gross score.

I mean really we have saw many deer questioned in the contest already. Having said that first you must think I would lie about the score and then to have the balls to stretch it 16 inches over what you think it is????

I will be picking the rack up from the taxi sunday or monday for a few days until he needs it back next weekend to mount it for me. (pays to be buddies with the taxi I get to cut in line and I will have it back around X-mas time:D) I will show some of my buddies that didn't get to see it before I took it in.

If anyone wants to come on over to NE ohio to personally take a look at it before next weekend be my guest. I am sure there are some local members[8D]

I really wasn't looking for an arguement with you, you just hit a nerve with me calling me a liar.

You have to go and try to rain on someones accomplishment by insuating them to be a liar and not backing your claims afterwards.

IMO if you are going to personally call someone out on something you should at least be able to back your claims.

They are ALL great bucks for sure...........it is a real shame that this contest has brought out negative discussions about such great bucks. Very predictable......but still a shame.

I am sure pics can be deceptive.....hell, to me it looks like KCISON, MAZUR1, and Todd Graff all have bucks bigger then Buckeyebuckhntr's.

No disrespect to anyone and NOT calling anyone a liar. Just my honest opinion from looking at the pics. Right or wrong that's how they look to me.

There are a bunch of bucks in the scorecard that have similar scores but the racks don't look as similar. :(


BTW the biggest buck in the contest is mine. I forgot to add the 1 in front of my 64 7/8" [:o]

Gets confusing with all these official score takers around and Bass Pro calling me every 10 minutes wanting the rights to the "Atlas Buck"

You know I guess I am done trying to convince anyone anymore. Take it as you want because that is what you will do anyways.

Erase my score and drop me from the contest. I am done arguing, then select members can kiss my a$$ when it is officially scored.

I am confident the score is correct within an inch or two either way (for margin of error) as I nor my taxidermist are "official" measurers.

He calls this a 130 class buck. But refuses to accept mine as 161 gross. What a joke.




Look at the difference and it's a big difference.
The G2's and G3's are nearly twice as long. Thats 20 inches alone, not to mention the much longer main beams, better mass and spread, the kicker off the base and both of the split brow tines.

I asked for others to look at the pic and compare my individual measurements posted to what they would guestimate from the pic. No one has posted their findings, I am still waiting.

Buckeye , the spread on my buck above is 20" , and I believe my mass measurements are bigger as well. I'll be happy to PM you the individual measurements when I get back to work , it's in my locker. 130 is total gross score. You definately have some great tine length , but I just cant see that buck making 160.

And I never called you a liar , I asked if your taxi guy could have made a mistake. Sorry for posting my thoughts!

WOW........I hope you didn't get all fired up because of what I said. I already told you it was a great buck and I have NEVER insinuated it won't score what you say it does.

All I said was by the looks of the pics I would say there are 3 bucks taken in the contest that are bigger then yours. Just an opinion by looking at the pics.

I can't express in words how little I care if someone's buck is 140 or 150 or 250 for that matter. They are all nice deer and anyone who needs a number to make them feel better about their buck is missing the boat.

So again,

BEAUTIFUL!! Thats the kinda buck I dream about all day while on the stand!! There are bigger out there, but the shape and the long tines make this deer one of my favorites. The split brows make it even better. Congrats!!

Guys, I hadn't read the other posts until I had already posted myself. PLEASE lets keep our opinions to ourselves. I think its a great deer and it scores what the taker says it does. My one big concern is that if we keep openly questioning one another then the mods wont have a contest for us next year. Rob took alot of time getting this thing together, and he'll not do it again if all we're going to do is fight over it. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes at all, I am just having way too much fun with the contest, and I'd like to do it again. There is no reward for the winning team, and there is no reason to lie about anything. Even tho its looking like I haven't yet scored on a buck this year, I'd still like to do it all again next year. Good luck to everyone in the woods, cause thats what its all about anyway.

The best thing to do is have him officially scored by a Pope and Young Scorer, then no one can argue that score. Nevertheless, no matter what he scores, congrats on a great looking buck.

I have plans to have him officially scored soon as the 60 days is up. The closest scorer is over an hour drive away. I don't want to make the drive 2 times for a green score and then an official score both.

So, I will have him scored once the 60 days is up. I am looking forward to it:)
