Default Wet Bow Question ......

I plan on hunting this weekend, and the outlook is for rain showers on and off. What is the best way to take care of my wet equipment once I've ended my hunt ?? I have my own ideas, but want others to comment please.

Thanks.

For what its worth........ pad it dry and wipe everything down with a very lttle amount of wd-40 or gun oil. this should protect everything from rusting. the only thing that ever rusts on my bow is the limb screw heads so thats the only thing that i ever pay any attention to.

Good luck. The big bucks like to move around a bit more in a light rain.

Good advice SEK, I also hit the rest & cams with a hair dryer, just be careful, too much heat can damage the string. If you ever hunt when it's sub zero I would be careful with the WD-40 or gun oil, it can freeze up. Liquid Graphite works great. I learned this lesson on a late Dec. ML hunt. I froze my yumpas off for 6 hours in sub zero weather, had about 4 inches of snow piled up in my lap by the time a nice 6x7 walked by. I was estatic until I went to take the shot and realized the trigger was frozen solid[&o]. Sometimes it's the little things that make the diff. in bagging that deer of a lifetime.

I blow my bow off with an air compresser. If you don't own an air compresser you could buy a blower attachment and use the air at a gas station.

I just shoot it a couple of times, you can see the water come out of the string. I shoot until no more water comes out, then another time or two, then wipe it down with an old cloth diaper (unused til by its former owner of course)

First off, since no one else has said this -- make sure your string is well waxed. Water can wreak havoc on strings.

A local bow shop told me a neat trick to wax a string -- apply wax and then use a low heat on a hair dryer. It will soften the wax up a little and soak into the string. Do this a couple of times and you'll have wax all through the string.

For the rest of the bow, a light oil seems to work best. WD40 is not a lubricant but a solvent. It will just strip all the oil / grease / lubricant that is on the bow away. (Can also lead to more rust). It has it's place, just not to protect from water IMHO.

Good luck! Hunting in the rain can be fun if you can manage to stay dry!

Don't spary a compound bow with WD 40, it will eat up the strings and stuff, after awhile it will go puff. [&o]
