Why would you feel aweful? He couldn't shoot a deer from 10yrds away. What was the brand? I'm always looking for a deal on Ebay.

you cant make everybody do the right thing, if you'd told this guy to practice 1 year before bowhunting, he would have blown you off and said that i dot had no idea what kind of hunter i am.

btw welcome and the i dot idiot thing was a joke.

You shouldn't feel bad for selling this guy a bow because if you hadn't sold him one I'm sure he would have went somewhere else and bought one. That being said, I hope you at least gave him some pointers on how he should practice until he is proficient before going hunting with it.

I wouldnt feel bad at all. I would actually feel proud for getting someone else into the woods and supporting the sport. I bought my bow two years ago and although today I am a very knowledgeable and excellent shooter back then I did not really know too much. I am glad though to have an uncle who is really into bow hunting. He showed me the ropes and I did very good for my first year. I did not kill anything, but what I improved on was my skill to bring in the deer. So basically what I am sayin is that you dont know, maybe he has a relative or friend who is a big bow hunter and will help hiim out. By the way I own a Mathews

Well make yourself some cash on the side off the Dicks Job.....
You could offer these folks Archery Shooting Coaching Lessons;)
Could be a win .. win situation for both of you.
Remember if you dont sell them the bow someone else will and they may sell them a bow that dosent fit them properly, that may turn someone away from archery and hunting. At least you know how to set them up with properly fitting equipment, and thats a good starting point to get them hooked on archery and hunting.
And Congrats on the new job.

I wouldn't feel awful,he's supposed to be mature enough to figure this out himself .If he's hunting from a stand he'll probably be doing a lot of missing anyway's .
When he return's he'll probabluy be bringing the bow back to see just what's a matter with it ,then you can tell him what he's doing wrong.

Think of it this way -- you did your best to sell him something which fits him right and has the potential to kill a deer. At least he got that much. You can't sell brains, and you aren't responsible for what he does with it. If the situation presents itself again, do your best to be helpful and knowledgable. Talk to your manager and see if they would let you put up a buliten board with archery clubs in the area and people who give lessons. Maybe then, you could use it as a conversation piece. Something like, "Be sure to check out our board! Threre are archery clubs all around who offer beginner clinics if you are interested!"

Who knows. Maybe you can help someone.
