Default Skull mount pic

Someone was doing a skull mount and wanted some advice. Here is how mine turned out. This was my son's first buck with a bow.

Nice job. How much money did you save by doing it yourself?

Very nice job. Did you use bleach or peroxide?

Gryan!

That look's like a great job you've done ,I might just have to try it .Can you tell what you needed to do to prep the skull.I'd definetly be interested in doing one myself.

I used powdered bleach and peroxide 40% which both come from a beauty supply store. The hardest part is picking all of the material from the sinus cavity. I found a pair of 12" tweezers at my hardware store and they helped. Acetone pulls out all of the greese and oils too. Boil it for two hours pull out all the meat, eyes, brain, gook and stuff. They put in clean water and boil it again and get the rest. It really is a three day project before you get to dry it and bleach it.

It was well worth it.

What did you find to boil it in? I've looked around at a few rummage sales for a large pot, as I don't want to use any of my wife's for the job... besides that, I don't know if we've got anything big enough for a deer skull to be submerged in.

You did a beautiful job on the mount. I can't believe how white the skull is while without loosing color in the antlers. did you use anything to help resotre the antlers after you cleaned out the skull.
