Help with ethical question
Hey guys I have a question to ask all of you. The main place I hunt the owner wants me to take him a couple of does during bow season. Now the problem is that I am only allowed 3 deer on my bow tags. He said dont worry about it I am also allowed 3 but I dont hunt so you can take them on my tags. But to me I dont want to do anything that is against the law. What would you do I could loose my permission to hunt there if I dont do this for him and it is a very good place to hunt and I would hate to loose it.

RE: Help with ethical question
Hey Royak, Check with the DNR for your state. If this is farm land or the property is ajoining farm land they may give the owner of the property a few reduction tags. Basically the state gives these out to farmers so they can reduce the deer herd on thier property.
Of course the state has to be able to justify this action and if so make sure he ( the land owner ) is allowed to issue those tags to other hunters. I know some states have this practice and some don't. Worth checking into, solves his problem and yours at the same time. Dave |
RE: Help with ethical question
If this is an agricultural area, check with your F&G dept about getting nuisance permit. If not, take your two does and a weekend job ;)
If the place is really overrun, I could come down and lend you a hand :) Don't jeopardize your hunting license anyone. UR |
RE: Help with ethical question
What if you downed a doe, went and got the landowner, he tags the doe and you take it back to his place. Does this fall into the correct legalese of who can harvest and who can tag game? Probably not. But as long as the deer is correctly tagged who will really care?
Just last year I stopped to help a fella load a huge doe into the back of his truck. The story was a group of deer crossed the road in front of him and this doe hit the fence head on breaking her neck. He tagged the doe with one of his licenses, if a conservation officer had stopped everything would have been legal even though HE didn’t directly harvest that doe. If your not comfortable with any of it then don’t do it. |
RE: Help with ethical question
In Minnesota we can party hunt. One guy can shoot all the deer while the others tag the deer. I don't know if it would be legal to shoot them when they aren't hunting, but I know that party hunting is legal (at least in minnesota)

RE: Help with ethical question
Shoot the does. Let the farmer tag them and if he doesn't want them donate them to hunters for the hungry. Call it the cost of access.

RE: Help with ethical question
Guys this isnt a question of too many deer or crop damage he doesnt bow hunt but want 2 deer for the freezer young does. Now if I dont take them he may get someone else to do it and as of right now I am the only hunter there. He will check them out at the station with a land owner tag. So what should I do.
Funny only 5 replys and over 100 views guess most dont care. |
RE: Help with ethical question
What you don't like, the response you got? Let the owner tag them and him check them in. Why do you care. The state is happy they have paper work and a registered kill. If that is what it takes to hunt that spot then it's what it takes. Most states just say the deer must be tagged before removal from the woods.

RE: Help with ethical question
I say go for it.
You are hunting on your tags, but he chooses to tag it. It is not like you are hunting with his tags. Just don't carry his tags and have him come out and do the tagging himself. |
RE: Help with ethical question
I'd do it.
