Hey guys last weekend and this weekend I hunted the new property my dad bought for the first time.
heres what happened
last weekend:
Day one
I saw a nice doe at about 20 yards in the middle of all the brush no shot
dad saw 1 buck just before daylight under his stand caught his sent and took off then 4 does came out into the clover field, about half hour after they left he saw 5 more in the same spot. no shot all about 40-50 yards away.
Afternoon we saw nothing
day two
could only hunt for about an hour in the morning we had to have a drive way put in from the road to our trailer.
this past weekend
day one
i saw nothing
dad took a shot a real nice 4 pointer but missed at about 10 yards i think he hit a branch with the arrow
afternoon
saw 4 does took shot at 15 yards and i dont know how i missed
dad did not hunt
day two
only did a morning hunt because we had to be back at work monday morning (3 hour drive)
dad saw a buck that he said looked like a horse way to far about 75 yards
i was hunting from the ground saw a small doe looked like a fawn and a smaller 6 pointer
i tried to take the shot at about 20 yards in the open and missed again

man i have been practicing almost every weekend since easter and i dont know whats wrong with me i shoot good but when im in the deer woods it seems like i cant hit a barn from 10 feet away, i guess i need to do some practice shots in the woods.

well i thought that you guys might want to hear about our first trips out we will be going one or two more times after all the leaves fall before shotgun season. It will give me some more time to practice before we go out again.

Have you taken a deer before? Relax don't put too much pressure on yourself. Just focus on an aiming point stay down and make a good release and follow through. Don't jerk to look at the arrow flight. I would imagine that is what is happening. Make your routine the same target vs game. The only additional comment i would make is make sure you practice in the same clothes that you hunt in..upto and including mask and gloves.

Tremolo!Sound's like your in the right spot for the deer ,I'm sure if your patient good thing's will happen for you .Keep up the good work .Don't worry about your shooting it will all come around when the times right .

it will all come with time buddy sounds like you are off to a good start just a little more practice and i think you will be on your way great start!!

Just a thought - Make sure you follow through with the shot, Don't move that bow arm to see where the arrow is going. Wait till you hear it wack the deer. Hope this helps.

I have only had one other chance at shooting a deer with the bow when i was about 16 years old (now 23) and it was a dead on hit to the heart. i havent hunted much with the bow since then because we bought a rabbit dog and it ran into bow season.

The property sounds like a keeper and if you continue to see deer like that you'll connect. A thought I have may be you are misjudging yardage. It's easy to do and 30 yards in the woods looks a lot diffrent then 30 yards in a field. I'm not positive that thisis the culprit but it could be causing some of your problems.

Keep at it and you'll make the shot. I'd suggest finding landmarks at diffrent shooting distances to help with yardage estimations.
