RE: what r the deer eating now in the woods???
Late winter foods also include greenbriar and honeysuckle. I like to concentrate my hunting now on south facing slopes with a lot of honeysuckle on them. On one farm I hunt they are ripping up the red oak acorns that dropped in early Nov. They never hit them hard when they are dropping, they always leave them until later in the winter.

The buck I killed last week had a belly full of browse, mixed with a few acorns.

RE: what r the deer eating now in the woods???
I'm in NW PA and watched a doe 80 yards from my stand Saturday pawing through knee deep snow and oak leaves to get at acorns. I moved my stand to where the oaks are and grass field that borders them deer are in at night.

Around here, if you find a pine thicket, there seem to be a lot of mushrooms growing in the pine needles on the ground. Everywhere I look, the deer are tearing the tops off the mushrooms on their way to the acorns.
