any little noise will work, the thing you want to remember is that if you put the deer on red alert it is more likely the deer can jump the string (not that it happens all the time) but a whitetail deers reaction time is a lot faster than the speed of sound and it doesn't matter if you have a bowtech blacknight 2 that has an ibo of like 342 to 350fps the deer can react way before your arrow will hit it

Pay attention ya'll....
I use a hands free grunt call that works by inhaling instead of exhaling.
I can do it at full draw, completley hads free and with only 2-3 inches of movement of my head.
Stops them dead and when I attach it behind my back it sounds as though it's coming from behind me so....they look right through me and past me looking for the source.
Tube that clips to your coat and the reed attaches 14-16 inches behind it. Attach it so the tube hits your mouth when you tirn your head and Voila
Away Outdoors Bowgrunter Plus. I have no affiliation with them...it's just a great product.
Here's a link to it and theres a video you can watch to see it in action.

Hi Trushot, I've just purchased the Away grunt call you talked about. I was hoping to find someone that has used it.
Does it really work to the point of no hands needed. leaving both hands on the bow?
It really made sense when I saw it on tv. The position of the mouthpiece, the sound blowing behind you, the inhale instead of exhale even makes sense because I actually take a small breath and hold before I shoot, also keeps the breath scent down I would imagine. Can't wait to grunt stop a buck in his tracks.

I'll give this one to the sheep callers. The good points are, it woorks very well, you always have your call with you, hands free, costs no $$. How could you go wrong. With a little practice this is very efective!
