My cousin stood up and got ready when a doe turned and started his way this evening, when she turned and walked out of sight he hung up his bow and started to turn back around to set down and all at once his stand went down on the right side,
what happen is, on the end of cable that comes down there's like a crimp that holds the cable then the crimp thing bolts on to the platform that holds you up.... The cable came out!!!!
he camoed it when he got the stand new! and where the camo he sprayed ends tell the end of the cable is only about 1/4 inch long! it must have been cut short out of the factory!!! and when he put a lot of weight on that one side it just pulled out because it didn't have much holding it......
So watch out and check out your stand...

I was in my bear river portable for the first time this year. Before actually climbing in I checked the straps, this model has a strap going around the tree and a chain. The strap was almost completely torn. I'm going to replace it with a camo ratchet strap next time up.

Let me guess, a Hunter's View stand????????? I had the exact same thing happen to me with a Hunter's View 2 years ago. They said it was a factory defect but get this, they never had a recall or anything. She sent me some new cables but my stand was already busted. I just threw it away, didn't want to take the chance.

Wear a safety device! Our stands get left out in all types of weather and for months on end. Check your straps often (preferable before getting in). I read an article from some guy who had someone attempt to steal his stand. They apparently couldn't get it off but loosened the straps. Well the guy found out the next moring when he stepped into it. [:'(]
Hopefully your friend didn't get hurt.

Just and added safety suggestion for portables. I add two extra ratchet straps to the top section of the stand. One above the fixed strap/chain and one below it. Well worth the added cost for the stability.

In response to the Hunters View stands. I use nothing but hang on stands and these are buy far the biggest piece of junk. The one i had this year needed the chain and 2 other straps to be secure. Gorilla stands....now theres a sweet stand. I hope your buddy is OK and was wearing a harness

I meant to get back sooner but I've been having a but load of problems! [:@]anybody a lawyer on here ??[&o]He's alright still cross eyed as ever LOL!!! only thing it dun to him is made him we we he pants
LOL!!!!!!(Nope it's was not a climber and it was not a Hunter's View stand)
I know he takes his stand down after he uses it, he don't hunt much and what he does is on public land so the stand comes out of there when he's dun hunting..
Also I know he and I keep a check on our stands, but this was a defect in the length of the cable that you couldn't see, that and it probably wasn't clenched tight enough a round the cable..
Don't know the brand right off hand but I think it's an API ?
