Here's what I learned from a friend who has killed many quality deer with a bow all over the US. When you set up your stand on a trail or feeding area, most people place the stand facing the way you think the deer will come from. This puts the deer looking at you during travel when you need to be getting ready for the shot. I have now been setting up my stand close to a bedding area or on a trail with my back in the direction where the deer are supose to come from. This allows you to use the tree to block your shape and hide your movements. My stands are 25 to 30 feet high. As the deer walks past you, he is now facing away from you. You can stand up and ready your shot. When you are ready to shoot give a small grunt with your mouth and the deer should stop and turn for a look. Take your shot. This has helped me from getting busted readying the shot, to making a harvest. What do you think of this approach?
