That's a great opening day!!! I have had too many days like that. Like you said, it is only opening morning, and you have PLENTY of time to take that big boy!!!! Just look at it this way, IT CAN"T GET ANY WORSE THAN THAT!!! (or can it??????)

Nice shot! Im hopeing to get some meat in the freezer soon to. But I can't hunt again until Monday :(

Funny story. Great way to open the messages for the season. Ditto on the rain. The deer never cooperate. I think at times I actually think to hard about where they'll be. Set up on a rock ledge overlooking a good trail along and crossing the river. All to no avail. Decided to take a walk in the rain to one of my other tree stand locations on a ridge above and pushed a big-bodied boy with nice antlers. Should've--Would've--Could've!!! Just good to be back in the woods again with that anticipation overload in full swing........

POCOMOKE: My opening day was a lesser version of yours. I got 3/4 of the way to the woods and realized I left my pack at home. I called Len and told him I would be late, had to turn around. Wellllll, "Gadget man"(who travels with a full archery shop in the back of his truck said, what do you need, I got it. So I went through the list, knife, light, safety harness, bow hook or two yada yada yada. He said, turn around and come back... I got it all. He did. I had left my pack and safety harness lashed to my climber, and since I was going to hunt from a pre-hung stand I simply forgot all those "Little things".[&:] I could have used a pair of binos(I know he has those in his truck too and a rangefinder but forgot to ask. Wasn't my day. I did have my bow.:eek:

Well I am glad I'am not the only one,but sounds like I was the only one wearing backwards bibs.:DI know I was a bit sleepy but never done that before.

crazystups I was hunting our property in Calvert co at the chesapeake beach area,but also do alot of my hunting in pocomoke Md on the eastern shore.

Same thing here not much moving. I saw one fawn and that was it, for both morning and evening hunts. With more rain coming it doesn't look any better till monday.

Man I read these post and kinda reminds me of this show I was watching on the Outdoor channel today. This guy is hunting on one of those awsome deer infested hunting ranchs. Anyhow he has one of the most reliable muzzloading rifles you can buy (Knight Disk) and he has two miss fires on a 150 class buck. He realizes that he didn't unscrew his second safty out all the way. Well the next day he trys again. Another nice buck maybe 130 class. His gun miss fires again. I guess what I'm saying is this stuff never happens to me. Maybe because I cut my bowhunting teeth on public land and bucks don't come easy so there is no room for mistakes. You might only get one chance at a buck and when that chance comes you better be ready:D

Oh MAN... the big JINX has just been cast.... and you did it to yourself.[8D] Everyone has one sometime. One of the nicest deer I ever killed with a bow was about a mile off the road. Fortunately I could drive within about 400 yards of him. I forgot my knife that day and had to dress him with a broadhead.

Problem number 2: I rarely miss it seems. Or at least I'll go for 2 or 3 or 4 years without a mishap. Last year I had 5 or 6 on the ground without a mishap and went to NY bowhunting. First thing first afternoon, shot right under a doe. Figured 30 and it was 36. I didn't have time to range a tree before she showed up. Next morning, same spot, I had a buck come up the hill. My tree was between him and I. He looked like he was going left, then right, then left, then right... oh the misery of it all. I finally got turned right and he turns straight on. It was snowing when I left the night before so I pulled a plastic garbage bag over my stand to keep the snow off the platform. I laid my bow on it before pulling it up the next morning and left the bag on the ground. He ended up standing on the corner of the bag against my tree(ON THE OTHER SIDE OF COURSE) He finally got a whiff from the bag he didn't like and bolted. That afternoon... different tree. 10 yards buck broadside, drew and before I got it back 10 inches the dang release went off. The arrow made it about 1/2 to the deer. He jumped. I almost got reloaded before he whiffed the arrow.... gone. Had a piece of treebark in the release from climbing a red pine. 3 deer in a few hours. Oh the misery of it all.
