I was working feverishly to close my job up on wednesday and take off to the mountains, as luck would have I just now finished. My customer for Mondays job called to reschedule today leaving me with 12 straight days off. Hmmmmm....just finished this job, money in the bank, wifes happy, 12 days off during the peak of bow elk season, you gotta be kiddin me, this never happens. Clearly there is a God and he is smiling on me. Leaving tomarrow for the high country!!! I love bowhunting, the fresh water, the mountain air, the rutting bulls, AND THE TWINS!!!!

Sorry for above post I screwed up. Anyway I spent 8 days in the mountains pusueing elk. It snowed the first 4 days and reached 80 degrees yesterday. Had several close encounters with the bulls and saw a ton of elk. I was tooling down a logging raod and met a bear tooling in my direction. A little young bear, I yelled "git" and he scampered up the mountain, got some pictures of him though. Yesterday morning I was working a hot bull when right above me I heard crashing and running noises. I was in thick stuff and heard what I swore was a bull moose grunting and huffing, decided to leave that alone and slipped away. Anybody know if a bull elk has a tending call like that of a moose? I sure don't want to get between a rutting bull moose and his cows. Finally, last nite at dusk, the canyons finally lite up. Elk were everywhere, cows chirping insestly, bull bugleing from every tree, it was magic. I wanted to stay with them all night, alas I must work 50 weeks a year to hunt for 2, something don't seem right about that. It was a great trip, a great time. It was hard to watch the sunset tonight from my house instead of my mountain came.
