You're gonna get a wide variety of choices I'll bet ...my vote goes for Chippewa Wedge-Loc. I use both the 'chief' and 'wedge-loc' models.

I will 2nd Summit stands. I have not found a climber out their to compare with theirs. For a fixed position stand You realy need to look at the Copperhead XL. It will cost a little more than some of the others out thier, but you won't find one that is more comfortable, stable, and hangs as fast! I recently had the chance to try one out and I was very impressed. If you can get both a climber and fixed stand, but If you can only afford one, go with a good climber. The summit viper xl is a great all around choice.

I have a Cabela's Trophy Lite. It is a great stand, only $60, and only 7.5 pounds.

I have buck shots big shot and I love this stand and I can sit still all day long and that is saying a lot. You also can sit facing to or away from the tree.

summit by far from my experience and they have what has to be the best customer service in the industry today. It is nothing to see the president of summit posting right here.

This year in Arizona, I had the opportunity to complete a filed test on the GameTracker Gorilla Silverback Treestand. The stand was very light, easy to carry, stable, large platform. The only draw back that I had seen was that it could have used a Ratchet style strap. I removed the one it came with, added the ratchet style and I was impressed. Also, that cost is low compared to others. I gave this stand a 9 out of a possible 10.

Good luck!

API grand slam supreme / tree loung if you can put it up and keep it in the same place. They are a little big to lug around all the time. I place mine in the woods and lock them to the tree. Both stands are very comfortable

Howdy Marshin.Lots of good choices out there now days.A couple things to consider here.A fixed position or "loc-on" type stand can be used almost anywhere you have a tree that will support a stand.Climbers on the other hand, usually require that you find a tree that is relatively straight and has an absence of lower limbs.Although there are tons of variables,I've found good climbers to be more comfortable than good fixed positions when compared side by side.I use both types and can recommend the ones that I (or friends) have found to live up to our expectations. They are the stands built by OL MAN,SUMMIT,and API(in no particular order).I suggest that you buy a quality stand, that is well designed, solid, quiet, and comfortable.Money well spent in my book.Good luck.

That means......Anything Summit......the easiest to use, quietest, most comfortable stands on the market. Right across their entire lineup.

It's probably the ONLY thing I would recommend in the entire hunting industry that I can GUARANTEE you will be plesed with.
If you've tried one of their new cable system climbers and don't like it?......See a doctor!

All stands can be dangerous while climbing, but the safest, once everything is PROPERLY set, is the Loggy Bayou. I don't really care how easy something is to climb with, but how steady it is when I'm set up for the hunt. That is where I'll be spending most of my time.

Summit....I don't like a bar out in front, so look at the Cobra or Bushmaster for the most freedom in front.

Buck Magnet 03-06-2002 09:37 PM

RE: what's the best portable bow stnd

Like JasonN said, the Bushmaster allows alot of freedom, yet it is still a very safe stand. I have a Summit Bushmaster XL, it is EVERYTHING you want in a treestand and nothing that you don't. It is plain, which in my eyes is a good thing. It makes everything that much easier.

Check out some Summits at www.summitstands.com

I have a API grand slam supreme I love it, you can sit in it all day its like a recliner! It also has a padded gun rail to attatch for gun season for that steady shot. Also comes with a full body harness and a chest harness for safe climbing, with a video on how to use it all.

Looks like you've gotten a lot of opinions already, but I'll add one to the list that I didn't see. I'm not sure if you're talking fixed position or climber, but for a climber I'm a big fan of Ol' Man Visions.

I've used one for a couple of seasons now, and I'm very satisfied. To me, the net seat is the most comfortable I've found. I can sit much longer, and I never get that sore "you know what" that I do with other stands.

That being said, I've heard very good things about Summit stands. I'll probably own one before too long myself.

I would buy the tree lounge as long as you can leave it in the woods.
The only thing is i would not waste any money on the levelers that they sell with it.

I am not about to argue with all you Summit guys. Based on your responses they are clearly great stands. I would just like to say i love my API Grand Slam bowhunter. Yes, it is a little heavy and big, but that is exactly what i like about it. I can stay all day in it and be quite comfortable. Just my two cents worth.

Loggy Bayou. Very solid once you reach your height and lock it in. And because it is solid and I feel very comfortable in it, I am able to climb higher, with a safety harness ofcourse. Very comfortable seat also. All day hunts aren't a problem. I like 'em alot !!!

Everyone has their own ideas when it comes to the definition of the "best". Comfort is certainly important. Ease of putting up the stand is a plus. Without a quiet stand you might as well go home. Safety, well that goes without saying.

One of the descriptions I find suspiciously missing is versatility! Have you ever found what would seem to be the perfect location but no straight trees to hang it on?? The "best" overall stand that I can think of after trying quite a few different brands is a couple from 'Buckfinder' products, the Scouter and the Sundowner! These stands will go in almost any tree.
