daystalker,
speaking OF Adams when are you gonna drive out to Illinois and hunt with me?

adams,
This year it's about mobility. I want to be versitile
Now that's what I call mobility. Maine today Illinois tomorrow, you know;). I'd be there yesterday if I had the time off. We don't grow them on the East Coast like you do in the heartland but you're welcome to come hunt NH and ME with me if you'd like.

well i might have to take you up on that offer, HOWEVER you will have to allow me to bring you about 100 pounds of venison, like i said, one of the owners of one of the propertys that i hunt made it clear that if i didnt remove at least 10 doe from his property hes going to have someone else come out there so i am splitting it up between 4 of us. my uncle my father me and a cousin. we eachhave to take 3 at least. so you might be getting more than 100 pounds of venison... my honney hole is where we would hunt.. lots of mature bucks.. i have managed it PRETTY well.

but just so you know what to expect if i come out there! :D
i just checked a flight to chicago from maine is about 280$ round trip i think you coudl find one cheaper too. and then add the 100$ for the tag and you got yoru self a NICE long weekend in the heartland hunting big bucks...

280$ + 100$ + a NICE long weekend
= divorce

I don't think my wife would appreciate me leaving her pregnant with a two year old while I roam the heartland hunting massive whitetails. I'd love to help with the doe population though. I'll never get sick of that Thuuudddd sound;)

That's ok with me, I love venison. Do they have hunters feeding the hungary in Il? That may make cleaning up the herd a little easier.

I refuse to overhunt one particular stand. Sometimes too much success/memories out of a stand ("honey hole") can be a bad thing. I definitely go patterned last year.

2nd ..... I will never forget my arrows again.[:-]

Went from shooting a mechanical broadhead to Muzzys.

I love my climber, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that setting it up and getting up that tree makes some noise. So I hung three lock-ons and will hunt primarily out of those. Still kept my straight "climbing" trees open for when the wind isn't blowing right.

Different? Well I'll be bowhunting where I normally gun hunt because the Corp of Engineers controlled government property (Lake Georgetown, TX) I always bowhunted is demanding $100 for a permit.

Things I am going to do different this year.... good question, I really hadn't thought about it.
I guess the first thing is not get "locked" into one spot for too long. I over hunted a couple of areas last year. Also, I am going to pay more attention to those areas that seem "too tough" to hunt. I finally bought an ATV so I have a little more flexibility as far as getting in and out of some tough areas. Third, I am going to be more careful with my shot selection, I lost one last year to poor judgement on a shot.

RE: What are you going to do different this year?

I'm not waiting around to shoot something. I'm not settling for a small buck, but the first doe that walks past me is gettin it. With fawns or not. Last year I continueously had doe with fawns coming past me and I let them walk for some reason. After talking with a few buddies and thinking about it, if the fawns can't make it on their own by that time of the year....they aren't going to at all.
