I prefer to hunt the same general area with friends, using radios, etc. and meeting up after the hunt. But I have no problems going it alone either.

I prefer total solitude when hunting but love to gather with buddies after the hunt to share stories and deer hunting theories and philosophies.
This is me exactly ,
thanks Wolfen ! :)
This year , however , my wife will be going out with me . I think she just wants to spy on me . ;) Of course , this will give the Noon break a whole new meaning ... [8D]

when I first began deer hunting,we used dogs. Many people dislike that form of hunting, BUT, I will say it provided me with some wonderfull memories of my friends and family. We laughed, argued and cut up with each other during those drives. We didn't worry about being quiet or scent free or which camo was the best. Now , we are all older and enjoy slingin arrows out of a tree. You can't very well take your pals into the stand with you. As busy and HECTIC as life can get, there is still a place of solitude I can escape to. I find myself excited to get out there, alone with everything God has blessed us with in nature. I get to reflect on my week, my life and priorities and I can not tell you how much more time in prayer is spent in a climber. As much as I love my buddies, NOTHING can compare to that! Our bragging, grumbling and fellowship time is even sweeter getting back together after coming out of our stand.

I enjoy hunting with others for small game. I like to be alone for turkey and deer.

For quite a few years, I bowhunted with friends. I enjoyed that, but now I hunt primarily solo--especially for deer. My schedule allows me to hunt during the week and I like the solitude. However, when hunting turkeys, it's nearly always from hunting camp. I like the talking before and after the hunts, but still prefer to be solo during the actual hunt.

Unless I am introducing someone to bow hunting, I am always solo. Last year I took a friend for their first time, this year my step son will be learning.

Otherwise, I like going it on my own.

To me it's about memmories in the field, if for one split second another person can feel the same way I do , I mean the feeling of pure enjoyment or satifaction. You hard core bowhunters know what I mean. To have someone else experience this feeling it dosen't get any better. Hunting to me is about friendship, and sharing part of my soul with someone else at that momment. Word cannot express the feeling you get when you and a buddy or your dad or your wife share that magical momment. All that hard work that we do in the woods and to only share it with yourself , to me is selfish.

There's no place like hunting camp. Usually it's me and my 2 uncles.....1 I see all the time the other only during deer season. We have a blast and I wouldn't trade our times for anything. We hunt seperatly, but are always together. It's a team effort. Any deer we get, no matter who tags it, are "our" deer. Can't wait until November.

Like someone else said - I don't want to see anything that walks upright while I'm in the woods (unless it's bigfoot). I tried the radio thing one year, but I hated it. I guess I don't want to hear people either.

On the other hand, I love the pre-dawn drive with someone to chat and anticipate with - it kind of gets me even more pumped up (a good thing on those mornings when it's bitterly cold and I'm thinking I maybe should ahve stayed in a warm bed). The ride home is also "warmer" when it's shared with a good friend.

I also love the camraderie of deer camp in the evening, talking about what we saw in the woods that day or simply catching up with each others' lives - Thanksgiving week with my brother who I only see for a total of 2 weeks a year (he lives in NY, I'm in NC) is SPECIAL time for me. Same with the guy who owns the land we hunt.

But I don't want to see any of them in the woods.

Alone... although I do like it better when I have a buddy to help drag out my kill.

Man, i really need to make some sort of deer drag cart.

I like being alone but nothing beats the look on friends faces when I out shoot them - lol

I have two hunting leases - one for social hunting and one for serious (solo) hunting. I enjoy both, just as long as I'm in the woods.

I like a mix. There are times when you want to go it alone. However the best memories I have ever had were with others. Of course I am not talking directly in the stand with someone, but all coming together before and after the day.

Last year, I hunted by myself the whole season (bow and gun). On gun opener, I had a really interesting hunt that resulted in two deer for me, and a chance at the monster buck I had been watching all season. I took care of those two deer, without sharing it with anyone. As the season wore on, I found it hard to keep myself in the woods. It almost felt like I was too alone, which is odd, because one of the nicest things about hunting is the chance to get away from it all.

Sometimes, a hunting buddy is just what you need.

RE: How many of you like total solitude vs. being with buddies?

I enjoy the fellowship of being with friends and family just prior to entering the woods. But once in, I'd rather be alone. I also look forward to rejoining them after a hunt to brag about my deer or to see what the others have gotten if I haven't been successful.

I hunted a couple of times with my uncle last year on his hunting land, but it wasn't nearly as fun. He told me I could shoot a doe or a buck, but if a monster comes out its his. I told him this year when I visited we were not doing that mess again.

The before and after a hunt is great time spent with others. When its time to go in the woods, though, its on. I don't want anyone bothering me.
