Most bowhunters will tell you the same thing. You have to make that decision on your own. Each of us prefer different things in our bow. I prefer a light bow. I have a friend who likes to have a heavy bow. Do you want speed or accuracy or both. The best thing for you to do (I would be remiss if I didn't say almost anyone on here will tell you the same thing) go to your local proshop and get them to let you try shooting a number of different bows. Get the feel for it and make an educated decision.
Good luck.

Stalker hit it right on the head. There are so many great bows on the market you'd be doing yourself an injustice if you did go to a few shops and shoot a lot of bows. Once you start shooting a few you develope some preferences that ultimately lead you the RIGHT BOW FOR YOU.
Good luck and should you have questions along the way feel free to ask.

These guy's are right, you need to go to a pro shop and get measured up and tell them what money you have to spend and they'll do the rest .There are a lot of great bow's on the market at all price ranges .For me to tell you which is best for you is impossible ,what might feel right to me might not feel right for you.Good luck on your decision and let us know what you choose. All bow companies will have a bow in your price range so check them all out and go from there .

Hope you are not too attached to waterfowl hunting. I was hard core for about 8 years while my son and daughter were younger. Once my son asked if he could bow hunt I got back into that. Now I have sold just about all the duck hunting stuff I had. Just doesn't do it for me anymore. Bow hunting is very addicting. I'd take one day bow hunting over a week of duck hunting. But that's just me.
Do what the others have said about trying different bows. You need to get one that fits you. Good luck.

Great replies....
Welcome to the addicting sport of bowhunting! [8D] Everything that people have said is true. Bows are unique and each has it's own "personality". There are so many accessories to choose from, it's impossible to say what's good for you, what's good for me, what's not good for someone else, etc...etc...
If I understood right, you want to start bowhunting for the first time this season from scratch right? With a brand new bow? Uh, well, please don't take this wrong... I mean, first time starting out shooting a bow can be a B*TCH at first! You will probably zing a few arrows all over the place at first, a possibly torque the bow with a too firm of a grip at first.
You have to start out SLOWLY and practice from 10 yards away, over and over and over, until you can get the right form down pat. Then move back to 20 yards, and so on.
Like I said, I mean, don't take this wrong.... If it were me, I'd skip bowhunting with a brand new bow for the first time this season, and just concentrate on practicing with it, will still going hunting for ducks, geese, turkey, deer, with general firearms.
I'm on my 4th year hunting but only my 3rd year bowhunting. I skipped one whole bow season, while I practiced religiously with it. I know I might still be somewhat of a newbie, but, I can stick the bullseye repeatedly from 30 yards out with no problems. It just takes continuous practice!
It's great that you want to get into bowhunting. It is addicting and a great sport (increases your hunting seasons too!). [8D] If you have tons of time and hundreds of hours to dedicate to shooting a bow, then, maybe {MAYBE} you could be ready for this coming bow season.
Good luck!

you need to go to a pro shop and get measured properly so you know what draw, draw weight ect. then you have to shoot different types of bows until you find one you like and feels good to you.
