would you shoot a turkey...
if a flock walked by would you take 1?
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
during bow season that is
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
I can take on by bow in New Hampshire and one in Maine durring the fall archery season. I have every intension of playing pilgram and native american this fall if I see one.
I'm not real keen on shooting one out of a flock though. I'd like to try and call one in although I've heard it almost impossible to do so and to shoot one with a bow. This is what'll make soo much fun:) |
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
No ,
I value my Lifetime license too much to poach . Our turkey season is in the Spring . |
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Part of our fall turkey is concurrent with bow season and during that time I would not hesitate the least bit to shoot a turkey if it strolled by. I've had a couple chances, but have never gotten to full draw on one yet.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
If I get the chance during the overlap I will drill one....if, like rybo said, I can ever get to full draw on one.:)
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
yes we can shoot 2 during fall archery season. i just love fried turkey fingers they are fun to shoot as well
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
If it is legal, you have the proper tag, and you will get down to recover it, then by all means take it. But don't shoot one just to be shooting.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
You BETCHA! My archery tag is good for 2, and if it is during the firearms season, which coincides with the archery season, and archery methods are allowed during firearms season, I can take 2 more.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
In a heart beat.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
I buy one tag every year, its a great way to start the season.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Last year I got my first turkey with a bow during the fall season. 11.5 inch beard with 1 1/8 inch spurs.:D Only problem was he had lost the 4 center tail feathers in the spring and they had not grown back full yet so the tail mount looks bad.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
nice wihunter

RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Fall Turkey runs along with bow season here, last year I tried to get one but never got to full draw, Man thats tuff. I will be trying again this year.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Yes sir!!! It's always nice to bowkill that Thanksgiving bird!!! :D In IL we can take 2 birds either sex with a bow. Tags are over the counter and only cost $5.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
in a second fall turkey and bow run together ( at least part of it ) in fact three years ago i managed to take a tom just about took his head off 99% luck I figured a head shot would either take him clean or totally miss
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
if i had a clean shot, there would be no hesitation.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
In a heartbeat. The only problem is, I don't think it's legal in Michigan to shoot a turkey from a treestand. Anyone know for sure???
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
during the fall overlap definitely
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Given the fact we dont have turkey here, i'd say yes haha. But really, it would depend on if the season is open or not.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
heck yes!! i would IF i could that is......missed 2 with my bow last year[&:]
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
in a heartbeat....that is my goal this year, but i only have a 3 day hunt to get a chance.......wish me luck:D
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Does a bear crap in the woods?:D
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Does a bear crap in the woods? As said earlier, if it's in season and I've got the tag, I'd be totin' a turkey out of the woods. I have absolutely NO problem switching from a deer hunt to taking any target of opportunity. Some of my best rabbit hunts started out as deer hunts.;) |
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Yep. if i draw a fall turkey permit this fall im going to shoot one if given the chance. i didnt figure i would have time for it last year and had a flock of turkeys under my tree several times durinb bow season.

RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Right you are my friend!LOL:D
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
I would not take a turkey while deer hunting. The reason is this: I don't want to stray from deer hunting. I'm out deer hunting not turkey hunting. I don't know how long this would last. Mabey I would change.:D
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Naaa, I wouldn't shoot one of them things... they ain't no fun.
![]() Allright, maybe I did shoot just one. Um, ok, ok - it was with a Remington bow... yeah, that's it... the hard to find jobby with the 21 inch draw that flings them thar little short, fat arrows. You know, the ones with the #5 printed on the side that go "rattle rattle" when ya shake 'em. ;) Seriously though, I've passed on a few fall birds during the PA overlap with archery season. Figured about the time I do arrow one, Mr. Big head would have been 50 yards and closing, only to run away to the next county! [:o] |
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
Last year, I took 2 while bowhunting. I took them both out of aggrivation. ;)
I had never hunted before in my life with either a rifle or a bow and it was my very first day to ever hunt. I was in my blind and had lost the opportunity to shoot 2 different doe out of over a dozen that came to my feeder that morning. I was mad. Then along came a flock of turkey and one hen in particular was staring at me right into the blind. She stood there defiantly and kept eyeballing me. I knew she had to die. [8D] I carefully drew and let my breath out very slowly as I aimed and released. I saw here flop around in a din of feathers and squaking. The other turkeys were freaking out and running all over the place. It was as if they were saying "Oh my God! What happened to Mabel". (Mabel being the one I got ;)) She finally settled and died about 10 feet from where I shot her. Sadly, I could not process her because I spent the next 4 hours looking for the Buck my buddy shot in the shoulder. We never did find that buck. :( I shot my tom under almost the same circumstances except I actually got a shot off on 2 deer and missed them both before shooting that tom right in the head. (my sight had been bumped out of alignment and I was shooting a foot above my aiming point... hence the head shot) I did breast out the tom and got 2 great breasts each about the size of a sheed of notebook paper. I slow cooked them on the grill and it was the best turkey I ever had. :D |
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
we can take gobblers , and yes I would take on if possible.
my wife has taken 3 with her bow,me only 2. |
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
I have passed on quite a few while deer hunting because I was Deer Hunting. Have considered kicking myself several times for doing it too.
|
RE: would you shoot a turkey...
We do not have a fall season where I hunt, but if we did, I would.
