Have you ever heard?

My neighbor tonight wanted to hear what it sounded like from the deer perspective. Now I didn't let him stand there with an apple on his head but he did stand behind the truck down by the target. He said it sounded like a missle coming through the air. It was a lot louder then he would have thought. I may have to check it out myself some time.

I and friends have done all sorts of tests like that........some a little more stupid than others.
It has a distinct sound for sure (A quick Zip)but it's still not what you would hear if you were head on.....I imagine I don't want to know what that sounds like.[:-]

LOL!!!!
But I've had my head about 1 1/2 to 2 feet away from the bullseye on the target just to hear what it sounds like {I know that was STUPID}
You should hear what it sounds like standing in between the target and shooter to.
Now I've got a 30 minutes long tape I made with a recorder setting just inches away from the bullseye to listen to anytime I want... With out a chance of losing my head.[:'(]

Hay! I like to walk on the wildside...[X(]

I've been 3-4 feet away and its loud. Glad someone else has gotten closer (not me). Its really loud from that distance. Makes you wonder what goes through a deers brain when he/she hears it.

I've had many ocassions to be standing nearby a target with people shooting at it. Some of the field archery ranges I used to shoot on had the shooting stakes of one target fairly close to the target on the previous lane. And, quite a few times, I've been a tournament director and had to walk the range to observe. I've heard all kinds of arrow noises. I've heard aluminums ringing like a bell. I've heard thin, flappy vanes that sound like a buzzbait. I've heard feathers hiss. I've heard both vanes and feathers whistle. But, usually, you don't hear a thing until WHOCK! and there's an arrow sticking in the target face.
IMO, more than anything else, it's a matter of -uh- "less than perfect" shot execution that makes an arrow noisy.
