Long way to go to keep both eyes open...

I'm a right handed shooter, but left eye dominant. Been shooting for years with my left eye closed. I just started trying to train myself to shoot with both eyes open, and was doing fairly okay... I'd start with right eye open only, then slowly open left, and was able to keep the sight picture with the pin on target (close enough anyway...). I then tried to just start aiming with both eyes open and let one fly... Result: one field point and insert still firmly embedded in the frame of the practice butt, 2 feet left and about 1 foot high of the target, lol. Guess I still have a lot of work to do, but may just stick with the left eye closed if it starts getting too expensive... Any suggestions (be nice!)

It will be hard to train yourself. I also shoot right handed with a bow. I am left eye dominant. I shoot a gun left handed. For us it would be easier to switch to a left handed bow than shoot with both eyes. I guess it can't hurt to try both eyes though

Count me in too. I didn't switch to both eyes open until I switched to my new bow and my red dot scope. My old bow had a peep sight so I did close my left eye. With the scope it's both eyes open. I have screwed up though in the field and close my left eye out of habit causing me to shoot 2' left. I now always remind myself constantly to keep both eyes open when shooting.

I also shoot right handed but am left eye dominant but I disagree with the others that it is difficult to train your self. The approach you are taking is exactly what I did. I'd draw back and get set with my left eye closed and once the pin was where or near where it needed to be I would open my left eye. If you keep at it you will prevail. Now when I draw both eyes are open and I have no issues getting set on my right eye. On occasion I'll notice that something is out of place and by blinking my left eye my right locks on. Keep shooting they way you are and I'm sure it will work out for you.

I've been shooting quite a few years and I did't train myself overnight. When you draw breifly think about your anchors and if needed quickly close your left eye to get your berrings. I learned as a result of not being able to see a deer well in lowlight just looking thru my peep. By opening up your left eye you'll be able to see the whole picture.

Good luck and keep at it.

I'm left eye dominant and a lefty shooter. No matter what, I just CAN'T shoot with both eyes open. I guess it's due to the fact that I am just plain weird... [8D] I'm righty in this, lefty in that, righty in this, etc... But when it comes down to shooting, my left eye is dominant, but my right eye will just mess everything up and I'll see two arrows tips, or two gun barrels. [&:]

This could be a bonus. Do you get to see two monsters?

I'm right-handed and right-eye dominant so it isn't an issue, but I still shoot with my left eye closed and manange at least minute-of-angle archery groups. I don't think it hurts your shooting or hunting at all.

my dad is right handed left eye dominate and it doesnt hurt his shooting but he cant see where his arrows hit most of the time and where a deer runs ect so thats where it hurts him

Ha ha ha.... Actually, I tried shooting my bow late yesterday in the backyard with both eyes open. I was only 20 yards away from my Black Hole target. I pulled my old PSE Edge Series 1000C bow into full draw. I instinctively closed my right eye and sighted the top pin (20 yards) through my Shurz-a-peep, and clearly, perfectly, saw the center of the Black Hole target in the background.

While I held the full draw and concentrated on the sight image, I opened my right eye. I instantly saw two Black Hole targets! [&:] So, I closed both eyes. Then I opened both eyes and tried to focus. I either saw two Black Hole targets, or I saw two Tru-Glo 3 pin sights! I closed my eyes again, opened my eyes, blinked a few times, and no matter what, my right eye fights my left eye and screws me all up.

Long story short, I closed my right eye, and launched an XX75 straight into the center of the ring of the Black Hole target at 20 yards. [8D] Now imagine if I tried doing that with both eyes open. Maybe I'll try it someday, but I'd be afraid of not clearly being able to concentrate on my target.
