RE: Long way to go to keep both eyes open...
RIStrutStopper, as others have said, it can be done but it may take awhile. I started last year right after the season and now I can't imagine shooting with one eye closed. To see the best advantage to having two eyes open, shoot both ways as it is getting dark. That's what made me change even though I was shooting okay with one eye closed.

Start shooting with both eyes open and look how much better you can see in low light situations. That alone will make you start practicing shooting with both eyes open.

RE: Long way to go to keep both eyes open...
I am right handed and left eye dominant like many others.
I use this to my benefit. I can shoot equally well left handed or right handed - great for messing with my left handed bow shooting friends. Also, in the Army I consistently shot 40 out of 40... I used both eyes open, scanned with my left and shot with my right. Might be something you want to practice. |
RE: Long way to go to keep both eyes open...
I hear that two of everything... I get two images too when both eyes are open. I find when I concentrate, start with the left closed and then open it, the image on the left is right on, and the one on the right is.. well.. not. guess ill keep practicing, sounds like there are some good benefits to keeping both eyes open...
Thanks for the replies Paul |
RE: Long way to go to keep both eyes open...
While I held the full draw and concentrated on the sight image, I opened my right eye. I instantly saw two Black Hole targets! [&:] So, I closed both eyes. Then I opened both eyes and tried to focus. I either saw two Black Hole targets, or I saw two Tru-Glo 3 pin sights! I closed my eyes again, opened my eyes, blinked a few times, and no matter what, my right eye fights my left eye and screws me all up. Butch A. I used to shoot with only one eye opened. I am right handed, but left eye dominant. One day I decided to shoot with both eyes open. I looked through the peep, but my left eye tried to take over. I had a horrible headache then. I tried a couple more times, and I got it. Now I can shoot with both eyes open. |
RE: Long way to go to keep both eyes open...
Do yourself a favor and keep training to keep both eyes open. You will retain your peripheral vision, see better in low light, and be able to watch your arrow all the way to the target. I worked on this for quite a while and now instinctively shoot everything with both eyes open. Your shooting may decrease for a while but you will get it back plus the benefits of your other eye.
