Tobacco in the treestand?
#12
I have been chewing for a long time. I had a cow elk a couple of years ago with her face in mine. She never ran from me. When deer hunting I have never noticed a big difference either. I was kinda wondering about the new green apple skoal that is out. Seems to me like it might work as a cover-up. After a week in the mountains I think that I would be focusing more on my armpits than on my copenhagen.

I'm sure that the new green apple skoal would work well as a curiosity scent. and bambikiller, as far as the smoking suppsedly spooking deer, unless the deer know exactly where its coming from and watch him smoking, then i doubt they'll just take off and run. my dad was smoking when i pushed out 21 does and 2 bucks on a one man drive to him. i watched ahead in teh woods as the does came within 10 feet of him before stopping adn having a stare down for 10 seconds. cigarette smoke makes little or no diffrence.

I smoke and chew, Chew mostly, but have been known to smoke once in a while, I don't belive smoking in the stand has affected my hunting at all, I see just as many deer if I am smoking or chewing. as long as you are down wind I really don't think it makes much difference. But thats just my opion......

I've smoked in my stand nearly every time I've hunted. Have found that the higher I was, the less impact it made. Have had deer wandering around under me, and have had to tuck a cig into part of the stand to free up my hand to shoot them before too. Quit smoking nearly 2 weeks ago now, so probibly won't be an issue come October now.

My dad smoked for years and has many deer to his name. If it spooked deer that bad I don't think he would have killed as many as he has. As long as they don't link the smell to danger, I think it works more as a curiosity scent than anything.
Congrats on quitting, Hill!

Its an obvious answer. For me? Absolutely not. I am a smoker but i do not smoke in the woods.Come on man, forest=dead foliage=dumb mistake=fire or worse. Chewin either. I for one would not like to let the animals know I am there. I have better things to concentrate on than that while out in those woods. Oh by the way, picked up the Mathews today, and man is it sweet!

I smoked for almost 20yrs ( quit almost 2 yrs now ).
I cannot say as I've seen any difference in the deer - but I notice that when I breathe in all that fresh Autumn air now - I feel much more healthy.
I wouldn't let it get you down - If its not enjoyable not chewing/smoking while on stand - then do and take extra steps to deal with the wind.
