Now that is something I have never seen before. Do you know any bee keepers in the area? Maybe you could get someone with access to a bee keepers uniform/mask to get rid of it for you. I work for a bee keeper, but I live a little bit too far away to come and knock it down for you. haha. Good luck, hopefully you can get rid of it soon.

That's a dandy.
Number one, it is a wasp nest. You won't find honeybees in there!

Number two is that wasps can and will fly at night, so if you decide to try and spray it at night with wasp / hornet spray, cover yourself entirely (head to toe) and put a red lens / bulb in your flashlight. The PO'd wasps will come out and be attracted towards a regular "white" light.

Number three is that the paper "nest" is rather weatherproof (to a point) so that it usually takes alot of volume of liquid pesticide to saturate / penetrate.

Number four, a dust insecticide may work well to adhere to the nest and kill entering / exiting wasps over a period of several days.

Number five, it would likely be best to: call in a pest management professional or just wait till after some frosts. Better safe than sorry.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

If it were me I'd get back about 60 yards or so and slip off a few rounds from my 30-06 into it. If that didn't work then I'd tell my brother that I had hunted that stand and seen a HUGE buck. If I know him, he'll try to slip in there in the dark.:D That might keep him from trying to hunt my stands anymore!!:)

Whoa! that's a big nest. You should probably wait until dark, hose it down with at least one cane of wasp/hornet spray, then knock it down and spray it some more.

If it gets cool far enough in advance of season, I'd wait until it gets cooler and do what I was talking about.

here is what i woudl do.... if you live in a state that allows fire works.... and i dont but if you live near one go buy yourself a few m-80's tape an m-80 to the end of a broom stick hande. with a longer fuse attached to it. make sure you have it long enough you dont want to be really that close when it goes off. anyway shove that baby up the a$$ of the hive, and lite tha fuse.. ...... ........ .......... KABLAMO! wipe up whats left of it off your tree stand, no more hive. and that looks like a hornets hive last one i saw looked just that it. good luck.

Hunt another tree close by if you really like the spot with another stand till the frost takes care of it then retrieve it as a souvenir to hang in your garage ;)

I had a similar situation a few years ago. I put on my bug suit, climbed the tree with a trash bag, slid it over the nest and tied it tight aroung the top. I then cut the limb that mine was attached to. Looks like you would have a little tougher time tieing the top since you said it was attached directly to the stand. If you do this early morning or evening when it is cool you will not have as much activity from the wasp. I did mine in 60 degree weather and only had a couple of them buzzing around. Good Luck.

go to walmart buy a 20$ paintball gun , buy a 500 count of balls and shoot the heck out of it if it dont fall , you can also shoot marbles out of the paintball gun if loaded one at a time ,(have done it ) or spend 6 bucks on a sling shot and a couple bags of marbles and go at it, there for you wont have the smell of wasp spray in your stand and there wont be any holes or burn marks on it ,,, lol
