ORIGINAL: skeeter 7MM

Try this to get the feel, draw your bow straight then acquire the target below without moving your arms. Only one way to do this and it is bending at the waist!

By dropping your arm to acquire the target below you in fact change your draw length, why when doing so your POI shifts up. If you bend at the waist there will be no difference in POI from an elavated position vs ground.
There are 2 reasons why point of impact change when shooting from an elevated stand, one would be not bending at the waist because your anchor point has changed but the other is gravity. When you shoot your bow at 30 yds from the ground gravity is pulling it down so you set your pins to accomadate for this, now when you go up a tree or stand and use your 30 yd pin that was set on the ground and shoot at 30 yds your POI will be high no matter if you bend at the waist, because gravity is not pulling the arrow down because you are shooting down, thats why you will hit high. Same thing with a rifle that has been sighted for say 200 yds, shoot down a mountain at something out at 200 yds and it will hit high also.

elephanthunter........bend at the waist, its easy to forget whan the adreniline is running! As the others have touched on, don't bend and shorten your draw length as much as 1 1/2". Make sure you practice from a stand, you will have 100% confidance when the time comes!

Good Luck!

Bend at the hips... not the waist! This has been said for years where I come from. It is more about health reasons, the waist/back isn't as strong as the hips for bending.

I found out first hand that if you don't bend at the waist it pulls your line of sight out of sinc. I had a buck come if fast and didn't use my head, just positioned my self for the shot and didn't bend at the waist. It was only a 10 yard shot but at that angle you need to bend even more and I didn't. It made my shot go to the right of my aiming point but I luckily still got my buck, my biggest to date. I went and shot my bow from an elevated position after to see what happend and tried a few different things and found my shot to be off if I only dropped my arms. It pulls your eyes down, almost like looking at your nose thus pulling the line of sight out of wack.

Needless to say, I practice from an elevated stand all the time now!!!
