Went scouting today with my boy

Went scouting with my boy this morning and we had a blast together. He will be 9 on the 27th this month and he knows the bush really well.
We were walking to one of my stands to check up on it and he caught a rub line along the edge of the trees and said dad look, well we scouted it out a little more and decided to move my stand over about 50 yards closer to the rub line.He asked if we can put 2 stands in the tree and i found 2 big trees together, looks like i will be taking my boy on his first bowhunt in a treestand. He said that he is really looking forward to it,just me and you eh dad.
He really enjoys fishing to and i cant leave the house without him, like i want to anyways.NOT

You guys must be having a blast. My little guy is almost two and he loves animals (almost too much). He knows deer, bear, coyote, moose and a bunch of others. I'm not sure how he'll react once he understands that daddy kills these animals but I think he be fine judging by how he lkes to stomp bugs.lol I can't wait to take my little guy and teach him the trade. I wish the two of you a great season. Good luck

That is what it is all about. Keep up the good work and the one on one family time will pay off. Can't think of a better way to spend time with my kids. My oldest boy is only 5 but he has the camo and everything all set to go. I am toying with the idea of taking him out this year but we will have to see. He may still be a little young. Can't wait until we can go together though.

Cowboy, I started taking my son to the woods when he was 4.
In the end we pretty much only took a walk in the woods to eat our lunch but i am laying the foundation for the future. This will be his 3rd year going with me. I usually get up early to bowhunt, then go back to camp and get him mid morning to do some small game hunting and deer scouting.
I have 3 kids - boy (6) girl (5) and boy (2). They love Animal Planet but they also love going to Cabelas and watching hunting shows. All 3 of them had to watch me skin my deer last year and I had to chase them away from the table where i was butchering it at so i had room to work.

Thanx for the nice comments guys.Ya it is great and very rewarding. In a couple of years my boy will be better in the woods then me.
I started taking him in the woods when he was 4 i think and he can already identify deer tracks, bear tracks and others,he recognises scrapes and rubs and the principals behind them.
2 years ago i taught him how to gut out a deer(didn't like the smell--lol).I got it during rifle season and he was sitting right beside me when i got it,talk about excited[:-]
Forgot to mention, did you ever meet a 9 year old who can skin out a deer(with help of course)
Heres a little humour----------he said yesterday on the scouting trip---someday dad when your old and cant hunt alone,i'll pick you up if mom says it o.k and take you hunting, cause were buddies right(tears in eyes)

I think it's great that you guys/gals take your kids along hunting/fishing. I had some friends while growing up whose dads would go hunting but never take them along. I thought about all the good times I had hunting with dad and couldn't imagine being left behind to lose all those great experiences/memories. I feel that my dad and I are much closer today than we would have been without our time together on the lake and in the field. Keep up the good work!
