need some help picking a climbing stand

i currently have a api climber and have had it for about 3 years now and i like it, but i'm wanting somthing new so what would you guys reccomend. I want something that is safe, will be sturdy in the tree, light weight and easy to pack up. i was kind of wanting the new summit viper but someone told me that they would slip on the tree with you but i don't know thats just what i was told. any help would be appreciated thanks.

I have a summit viper and i can`t remember ever having it slip on a tree, As a matter of fact i have use API stands and just about every other stand made one time or another. And the summit stands beat them all hands down! It`s easy to set up on a tree becouse of the snake cable`s that they use, no pins bolts or any thing like that! I really like mine! i can`t think of a stand that ever used that i like as well as the summit viper!

I have an API and a Summit. Really like them both. I would have to say, however, that the Summit is a bit more comfortable.

thanks guys i did a search on tree stands and it seems the summit is a great stand. I have one more question does the summit viper fold up flat, the reason i ask is because i seen one in cabelas that did but don't remember which summit it was thanks.

The one that folds up is the Bullet. I got one here in ther box. I can't imagine the Viper slipping on a tree. Sounds a bit like incompetence to me. I actually had to grind the teeth down about 1/8" and round them off to get it to loosen up on some soft bark trees. Poplar to be exact. It's the best stand I've had in over 30 years by far.

Can't beat the Old Man Grand Vision in my opinion I have 3 of them and have no plans on ever using anything else. Check into them you won't be disapointed.

I have used a Summit for more than 5 years now for both bow and shotgun seasons and have never had any issues with it. I feel secure and very comfortable. I'll probably buy the same stand for my son when he is of age to join me on hunts.

I have a summit cobra and I hate it. Too bulky, if the seat gets wet it's wet forever, also tough to shoot to the side because of the side rails( I like to shot setting down). When I stand to shoot the seat doesn't push back very well.
I know alot of people love this stand but I'm not one of them. I'm going to try one of the Lone Wolf stands.

I'm looking at getting my first climber this year and probably out of Cabelas.
The new Summit Goliath looks like a very good choice for me as i tip out at about 265 lbs.

looked @t all the others and i just think the Goliath fits the bill with i'ts added umph and large seat. The dog gone thing about using a ladder /hang on combo is that they are just so heavy and not practical enough as far as mobility if you come across another area you'd like to get setup.

Summit has two stands that fold flat. One is the bullet as previously mentioned, the other is the broadhead. The bullet is a sit and climb and the broad head is a hand climber since it has no bar across the frount. All Summit stands come with a safty harness.

I just bought a new Climbing Star FS and it folds down flat and only weighs 16.5 lbs. It is a sit and climb but their padded seat is not a sling seat so you sit up level or just above the bar around the front. I haven't been in a tree yet to see how well you can shoot out of it. So far my only complaint is the paint is coming off easy. Can this be a common problem with aluminum stands? Does paint not bake on it very well? Does anyone else own one of these?
Also if you are interested in a Summit just last week their was a guy on ebay selling new sit and stand Summits for $190 shipped.

it looks like the Summit Goliath for me,,since i have accumulated a certain amount of points toward a certificate for Cabelas i'm going with them,,i'm somewhat stoked and anxious to try it out. But it never ceases to amaze me that right when your just a few weeks away from the opener and it comes time to order your hit with that infamous "currently out of stock ..back order",,,uhhg!! ,i just hope that doesn't happen.

Any stand can slip under the right conditons. It has been my experience that the Summit stands are more sturdy, comfortable, safe and user friendly than any other line I have tried. I think you will love the Viper.

Ok, as far as using a bow on any of the summits such as Viper, Bullet,, Goliath
would buying one with a front rail be a problem?, would that rail cause a restriction as far as shooting a bow?

if you are looking for a good climber i would go with the treelounge. it is safe, quite when you climb, and it is very comfortable and it's weight is only about 20lbs

The tree lounge isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I hunted out of one, and didn't like it for bowhunting.

It would be the cat's rump for gun hunting, though.:D

Bought a Tree Lounge last year, wouldn't think about hunting out of another stand now. Almost too comfortable! No problem staying in it all day though.
