oh, rip the cams off, pop the limbs at the bolt, fracture or blow you limbs out somewhere in between, cut your head up a bit lol.....all the energy the bow has from being drawn and then released that is supposed to go into moving your arrow goes right back into the limbs. I dont think of know of any risers breaking but I would think in an ancient bow it could happen though likely the limbs would fail first!

I was at a proshop and a guy was showing another guy a bow and he drew it back and let it go by accident but I wasn't ready for it and it scared the poop out or me too. Like you said like a shotgun.

That VibraCheck thing sounds pretty neet. Too bad they didn't put any pictures of it on their website.
Guess I'm one of the more furtunate ones here. I've never seen anyone (nor have I ever) dryfire a bow. Always heard it wasn't a pretty site, though.

My Uncle, who's been out of hunting for a few years asked to pull back my bow this summer. He hasn't hunted since the days of recurves, but I knew he knows better. Well, it slipped out of his hand and dry fired. A week before the season! Luckily, no damage, it's only set on about 60lbs. Lesson: never let anyone draw your bow, especially without an arrow.
Both the proshops around here have signs prominantly displayed saying "if you dry fire it, you buy it". I'd do the same thing if I owned a shop.
