John Deer:
I had the same problem. Well, I thought I had the same problem. I got a bunch of pictures back this past spring and in about 5 of them I couldn't see anything. One of my kids looked at one and saw a squirrel on a tree limb about 15 yards away from where the camera was mounted. I eventually found a squirrel in the others as well. But I really had to look for them. I just went to pick up the film in my Stealth Cam the other day. The whole time wishing I had spent the extra money on a digital camera. It's great to be able to buy these cameras cheaply but buying film and developing it is a pain in the rear! With a digital you could review the shots in the field and delete or save them however you'd like. Then load'm up on your computer or on CD. |
RE: Game cam Tips and Tricks
Well, I went out Sunday after my morning hunt and checked the stealth cam. As I walked up the trail I have the cam positioned on and all the way up to the camera from about 20 yards out, the camera didn't take my picture. When I got up to the camera I discovered that it had taken 9 pics in the last 4 days. But why didn't it go off when I walked up to it? I stood off to the side and waved my arm in front of the sensor. After about 5 seconds the flash went off and the camera took a picture. I don't understand why it is sooooooooo delayed.[:@] The batteries are fresh and the low battery light is not flashing. I cleaned the sensor area with a cloth before I set out the camera so I don't think that's the problem. I just don't get it. Are the digital's better? How expensive are they, and if I get a digital should I stick with a stealth cam or spend my money on a different brand? When the stealth cam takes pics they are great quality but it seems to me that it's too delayed. So overall, I'm not satisfied with the performance of the camera.

I wish I could help with which brand is the best but I think that someone earlier said that the digital Stealth Cams stink.

if you are baiting for bear, make sure you don't have any frosting on your hands when you check the camera. hehe. my wife's uncle found out the hard way. a bear tried to eat his camera. lol!
Also, don't point the flash in the direction of houses, close to roads, or trails used by people. oh, and if you are just thinking about a camera keep in mind the price of batteries. Some cameras get 2-3 months (trailtimer) while others get 2 weeks on a set of batteries. It really adds up. |
RE: Game cam Tips and Tricks
My deer cam by nontypical is great. The night pictures are alot better with 400 speed film but it works well!
I dont think I would buy a stelth cam. Either alot of people have that brand or a lot of people have problems with them. |

Another lesson learned!!!
Be cautious who you show your pictures to. I have been sharing my pictures with my local bow shop owner for the last year and a half. Bought my AR form him and he gave me the shaft!! This guy went out and leased the property I hunt from under me!! I guess he liked the deer pictures!!! Looking for new property to hunt and a bow dealer!!! |

I wouldn't recommend the StealthCam - I am now on my 4th returned camera. I bought the film kind first, and the LED locked up after about 4 months. They gave me full credit for it towards a digital version - definitely the way to go. You will spend a ton of money on film, film developing, and getting digital prints (I did just in case any of the pictures were of a good one). I have had to send the digital camera back twice - so I am on my 4th one total. The flash didn't work on one of them and the LED again froze up on the other. Stealthcam definitely has a problem with partial deer pictures - triggering too late or too early, so use the tape on the side of the motion detector.
As far as time between pictures - it depends on how you have the camera setup. If it is on a trail where they are just walking by, set it for 1 pic per minute or less if you can. If it is overlooking bait, a mineral lick, etc. - set it for higher (at least 3 minutes) otherwise you will get 3-4 pics of the same deer milling around the food. |

I've had the same problem with my Stealth Cam...Lots of butts and blank pictures. Yeah, I've gotten quite a few good pictures, but should I have to pay for the "junk pictures" too?
I've heard that many cameras go into "sleep mode" after a period of inactivity, which delays the trigger even more. I once went to check my stealth cam and looked at the LED from a few feet away, noticed that the roll wasn't full, and walked away. What a surprise when the flash went off when I was walking away --- 10 YARDS BEHIND THE TREE HOLDING THE CAMERA!! [:'(] Hmmm. I wonder why I have been getting so many blank pictures... I've had sooooo many nice pictures of my food plot and feeder at 7:00 in the morning and 7:00 in the evening---WITH NO DEER IN THEM! I think my next camera.......no.......I'M SURE my next camera will be a Cuddeback. |
