What is the best game camera to use??

I am wanting to buy a game camera and would like some input on what the forum thinks is the best. Not sure if I should go digital or just try a cheaper one for now. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Non-Typial Deercams are the Best! The digital ones are still seeing problems.. I wait wait awhile on them..
I have used the NT Deercams for 3 years now and love them!
Can get you a Great deal on them too! $175.00 shipped to your door!
Brand New with a Warranty.. You cant build one yourself with that kind of Quality for that price!

I have a Penn Woods digital deer cam. Hve used it two years now. The good thing about this camera is that it has an Olympus d-380 camera that can be removed and used like a reg camera. It is a little hard on batteries though, and the camera is almost $600 bucks. I would recomend the digital type rather than 35mm if you already have a computer. Before I got the Penn Woods digital camera I spent a small fortune on developing 35mm shots.

IMO the best one is the one that you build yourself. I have 2 sony p32 model game cameras. they run about 300.00 per unit depending on how much you pay for your camera. They are great on battery life. I have gotten as many as 250 pictures off a set of AA batteries in the camera. the controller unit for the camera runs of one nine volt battery and will last about 3 months. now, with all this said and done. I haven't heard of any commercial game camera getting that kind of battery life. You also get the satisfaction of knowing that you built your own unit. They don't take a rocket scientist to build either. The controller units come fully assemble and you drill 2 holes in the box for it to mount on. then there will be 3 holes drilled out using a one inch hole saw for the lens, IR sensor, and flash to look out. with a little glue and about one full saturday you can build your own high quality unit. I have owned several commercial units and have since sold them. here is an example of a pict from one of my units taken last month.

RE: What is the best game camera to use??

Trophy guy, I do not have a nontypical deer cam but here are a few difference in options that a homebrew can give you. for example.

1st - deer cam's are 35mm which limit you to 36 exposure rolls of film and hence can be costly upon developing and limit you to # of pictures. with a homebrew you can set the sony to take 1.2 megapixel which will give you a 35mm quality photo if you desire to print them up. on 1.2 megapixel with a 128 mg card you can take around 349 pictures. yes thats right 349 pictures.

2nd - a home brew gives you more options as far as setting your delay. for example, mine has 10sec, 20 sec, 1 min, 3 min, 5 min, 10 min, 20 min 30 min, and 1 hour delay. or if you desire, you can have the chip programmed for what ever delays you desire.

3rd - non typical claims 5 rolls of film for the battery that the camera uses. with a home brew and using the sony p32 you can get upwards of 500-600 pictures of 2 AA rechargeable batteries. lets see that is 13-15 rolls of film if it were a 35 mm camera.

4th you can take 15 second movie clips also which you can't do with the 35mm cam

I am just trying to enlighten some people that you can build a lot better and cheaper than you can buy. here's why

controller board 80.00 fully assembled. camera connections 10.00. dipped camo enclosure 28.00. camera off ebay for 130.00. misc expense 20.00 which makes your total around 260.00. once you built your first one you will be addicted to it. so for the trade off of a quality digital vs. 35mm I would take the digital. I can leave mine in the woods longer b/c of the number of pictures it can take and there is no film developing cost, also very cost effective using only 2 AA batteries and 1 nine volt.

On one final note I am not bashing nontypical but simply trying to enlight people of the ease and cost savings of building your own quality camera unit. If I can be of any help on any questions let me know and I will do my best to help you.

Sorry for going on but IMO if you put your camera's in area's where theft is high, I wouldn't put a homebrew there. I would buy a cheap stealth cam 35mm b/c if it gets stolen then your not out but 70.00 vs. 260.00 for your good unit. this is just my opinion.
;)

RE: What is the best game camera to use??

Hey ArkBowhtr.. No Problem with the comparison. I will try ro answer everything as close to my knowledge as possible.. First off: you are comparing the DeerCam Model that is 35mm to a Homebrew camera that is Digital.. hmmm this doesnt seem like a very fair comparision.. but to elate... The NT DC-200 is 35mm.. will take a 36exp. roll of film which iny my area of TN cost $4.99 to develop..via Winn-Dixie or WallyMart..
Second: the DC-200 has time delays of 15 sec., 30 sec., 45 sec., 1 min, 3 min, and 5 mins.. It can also record up to 500 events if the film rus out.. that way you still know your area is Hot.. Do the homebrew do that?
The battery life is 4-5 rolls of film.. Film costing .86 cents a roll and batteries costing $1.62.. I fail to see high expense
Maybe its just me..
Now lets compare the CuddeBack Digtal NT camera to a homebrew...
2 yr warranty...complete with a 1.3-MILLION-PIXEL RESOLUITON... HMMMMM Nice Huh!
video events recordable also.....Event Delays that can be set from ONE SECOND to ONE HOUR....HMMM Nice too!
Users Name and Phone Number is branded into the electronics..... Very Nice for its protection..directly on NT's THEFT STOP PLUS PRGM..
Gasketsless housing and water tite seal..
all this above for $350.00 and possibly lower!
Doesnt sound too bad when you compare apples to apples!
I Know a guy that builds his own Home Based Phones..but you know what, I think I'll just stick to buying a reputable one!
Thanks Guys!
