So, what are you going to change this year?
There are a few things I'd like to change on my set-up, but with my new job I just don't think I will have enough time to get it tuned the way I would like to and still get the practice I need before archery season starts. I guess I will have to leave things the way they are for now. Next year I'm going to try for a new bow.
What are some of the things you are going to change? |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
MY hunting rig is good to go and I like it. Not changin nothin.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Arrows.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I already changed my bow from a Mathews to a Darton. I'm thinking about a cat quiver, need some new arrows, thinking hard about a dozen poltruded Beman hunters and definitely a dozen CX 300's. Probably gong to try the Turbo nock "hunters" in the new plastic in white on 1/2 dozen of each of the arrows and want to try the new Bohning broadhead vanes on 1/2 dozen of the CX and I need a right helical clamp for my Bitz. jig to do the other 1/2 doz Bemans. I want, but don't need a new Scott rhino release and HAVE to stop by Macrotech to have Len modify my Muzzy ZE for his micro adjustable mod. Other than that...I'm good:D

RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
installing a 2nd generation Whisker Biscuit rest
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Gonna put a new WB disc on. Probably get some new arrows. Usually buy a new broadhead and see how it flies.
Primarily what I will be changing is Location--Location--Location!! |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I not changing that much this year...:D
Just my bow, arrows, quiver, rest, and sight.[:o] I am keeping my Scott release though. Camo |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I have already changed my bow from a Parker UL35 to a Parker phoenix 32.
My sight from a Cobra 3 pin to a MBG dusk devil micro. My rest from a QT2000 to a GKF TKO. Arrows from GT 75-95 hunters to CX300's. Broadheads from Muzzy 125's to Slick trick 125's. I haven't bought it yet but my stabilizer will be changed from a tranquilizer to a stealth. I gotta get a Parker two piece quiver too. This should hold me for a good four or five years.;) The wife would get a little peeved if I bought a new set up every year.[8D] I did keep the same release though. TruFire hurricane glove. |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Switching from on the string to a d-loop,and picking up either a Short and Sweet or a Jim Danddy release.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
After the results on my black bear this spring I will definately be changing my broadheads. I used steel force on my bear. The first shot (due to angle) went in behind the shoulder and up into the spine....this one literally disintegrated, I pulled it out of the backbone in about 10 peices. Once the bear was down I finished him with a shot from 10 yds this one broke a rib going in but did not even puncture the opposite side at all. The top 1/2" of this one was curled right back on itself. I shoot a 420 grn arrow at 290 ft/sec....from 10 yds pass through should not have been a problem....was not impressed with these heads at all and will never shoot them again. I have some Magnus stingers i am going to try, also some Montecs that a buddy has had great results with.
You can clearly see the lack of penetration in the pic below " />Chris |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Went from a hoyt mt sport to a bowtech justice, new arrows axis 400, went from a
tm prong reat to a tko drop away, gonna try a mech head this year 100 gr rocket steelheads xps, tubless peep also. |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Well, I've got a new Martin Cougar Mag on order ... should be here in a couple weeks. That will need to be all set up with new sights, stabilizer and will be trying out a drop away rest (probably a TT Shakey Hunter). Also will most likely get a new release and possibly some new arrows, switching from aluminum to carbon. Need to get some new rainwear ... might try Cabela's Rain Suede(?), but I'm still searching!
That will about do it for this year! ... Shockwave |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
A new WB disk for me!:D
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Changed my rest. Had an old rest I just didn't care for much...can't even tell you who made it. I replaced it with a Trophy Ridge DZ. Like it a lot. Glad I finally jumped into a fall away rest. Great decision!

RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Wow, u changed from a mathews to a darton? I have a Darton Yukon and i love, but i thought mathews was the NUmber 1 bow on the market? huh..
Let me know how u like your darton and what model u have, i am changing my sights, need some that wont strip year after year. "ALWAYS LEAVE THE WOODS WITH SOMETHING" |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
If I can make a really, really nice set of wood arrows I might use them over carbons. I might also change to a cut on impact traditional Zwickey type head over my Thunderheads.
Other than that, no changes |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I put a Muzzy ZE rest and HHA Optimizer sight on my Legacy.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I already made my changes - new arrows. Then I put some wraps on to lower the FOC.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I've already changed my complete hunting rig and the next thing I'll change is the stupid little hunting error's that I seem to make every season at one point or other. When to shoot or to just shoot I seem to expect the perfect shot before I shoot all the time ,and we all know that we don't alway's get perfect shot's .

RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I have changed bows, went from a pse pulsar to a pse fireflite lc. (i had shot that same bow since 1985)
Changed arrows to Gt XT's from CX terminators Also changing broadheads I shot the shockwaves last year, they shot well but i had problems with them breaking adn ruining my arrows, i think i am going to go with a 100 grain muzzy four blade for this year, have also had my eye on the g-5 montecs but I dont like hearing the sharpening problems that ive been hearing about lately. |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I changed the bow I'll be shooting. Switched from an older PSE Viking to an 04 Hoty Xtec. I'm really looking forward to shooting it and hopefully get some animals with it.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
My equipment is fine....no improvements NECESSARY. Lot of things I want ofcourse, but we all know how that goes.
What I AM going to change though....is I'm going to make a conscious effort to spend more time in the woods this year. Too much work, and too much worry. This year there is going to be some "just huntin'" time. |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I haven't changed my hunting bow set up in 5 years, it's simple and bullit proof. 69 ft/lbs. of KE
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Changed everything but my release. New bow and everything on it. Even got a custom string right from the git-go.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Gonna go w/ a Easton Axis arrows for hunting season.. still haven't decided what broadheads I'm gonna shoot. So many good choices out there.. just need something that'll group well and be durable enough for my black bear hunt.
Also prolly gonna change out my TKO for a whisper disk for hunting season... but not totally decided yet... really like the APA rests too. |
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I'm going to shoot some smaller ones so it's not such a hassle to drag them out.:) That Pope and Young walks by..... he gets a free ride. I'm too old for this stuff.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Changed from a Trophy Ridge micro matrix, to a Copper John Dead Nuts sight. I am scouting some new country so I will be hunting some new areas as well as my established ones.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
Getting a new bow, going from a old Browing to a new Bowtech Liberty.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
A new bow ! Been looking at the Hoyt Protec and I test drove a PSE Dakota. I'm leaning toward the PSE. May switch back to a release, so I need to add that to my list.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
There will be two main changes on the Q2 this year. First off I am scrappin the WB and going drop away. The two leading contenders are the shaky hunter and the muzzy. I watched a guy shoot his muzzy today for about a half hour and was amazed at how quiet it was and how well he shot with it. I think my mind was made up before I left the shop. I am also gonna take off my impact cosmic sight and simple things up a bit. Leaning towards a trophy ridge flatliner, or something similar. What I am really excited about is the new recurve that I am getting. I am jumpin in with a Martin X-200 @ 45lbs and can't wait to get started with that.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I went to a Predator IV pendulum sight. I mounted it directly to the riser and in my case it works really well. By aligniing the peep with the sight guard, my groups have tightened up to the point that I don't think I can improve much. That'sll be the only major change except for some early season predator camo that I picked up from the bargain cave in scent lok evolution. Nice stuff!!!
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
I chronoed my bow the other day and sure got a shock as to how slow it was. So I sat down with my wife and explained to her about speed and kinetic energy and penetration. She agreed with me that I need a faster bow, so half the battle is won. Anyway when I save up the money I'm gonna get a Bowtech dually and see how that works for me.
|
RE: So, what are you going to change this year?
mine is shooting good. i think ill hold off on the goodies until january or so.
