Mechanical or Fixed Broadheads?????
Hey need some advice. Broadheads, mechanical or fixed? Does one fly straighter than the other? Failure to open up? Three blades or four? I've been thinking of using a Crimson Talon , anyone shoot them? What brand mechanical? Thanks

Read this, it should help explain things a little.

You two are too comprehensive. How about a good ol' opinionated response? :D A small diameter expandable head is normally ideal for a well tuned bow with proper shot placement on whitetail deer sized game.
;) Edited for proper terminology.....;) |
RE: Mechanical or Fixed Broadheads?????
The term "mechanical" is the red flag. Mr. Murphy is addicted to mechanical things.
Considering that the broadhead has the final say, which would you feel confident with...... once your bow and your shaft setup met all the requirments for shooting a mech? |
RE: Mechanical or Fixed Broadheads?????
I shoot fixed broadhead. I like them better.

RE: Mechanical or Fixed Broadheads?????
IMO, with the excelent fixed blade broadheads out there today there is little need for any mechanical broadhead to exist any more[:o]. Too many manufacturers have too many fixed blade heads that fly every bit as good as any mechanical out there and you don't have to worry about any "failures". They leave a big hole going in and a big hole going out the other side.:D
Some that come to mind are: Slick trick, Wasp bullet series, Montec, stingers, innerlocks, Rocky Mountain iron heads. I am sure I am leaving out some. |
RE: Mechanical or Fixed Broadheads?????
I am currently shooting muzzy 3 blade 100's, but I have taken deer with RM snypers and wasp jak hammers as well. I was impressed with both of these heads and had no problems.....but with my muzzys I don't have that doubt in the back of my mind.

RE: Mechanical or Fixed Broadheads?????
The closest head I have ever shot to the same flight as a field tip is the 100 grain spitfire. I would be suprised if there is a fixed blade on the market that flys as true especialyat ranges over 35 yards. Just my Opinion. Not intended to upset fixed blade shooters. If you would like to go with a fixed blade I would suggest the Thunder head, or Muzzy.

i prefer fixed over mechanical. i have never shot mechanicals b/c i believe that it is just something to go wrong.
