Default hunt swap?

I am wondering has anyone used the hunt swap offered here. If so, would you recommend it, or did it turn out bad? I am saving money and planing to travel east to visit in 3-4 years. I have never been past the Dakotas. I want to take my family and visit a few places, and of course bowhunt as well. I want an area where I can kill a several deer, plus have a chance at a big buck. What states do you recomend? Last summer I became friends with gentleman from virigina. His company scent him to Idaho to work for a year. He wanted to hunt elk, and asked me for a good area to hunt. He was going to hunt by himself, because it was a once in a lifetime opprotunity. I decided to take him with me. I don't normaly invite people to hunt with me, unless I know them for awhile. I was planning to go with him back east to hunt. But.. he has decided to change company's same job, and live here in Idaho. The reason, well let's just say he is addicted to elk hunting now. I still have the option in about 6 years of going east with him. But I want to go before my oldest child (2 years) is in school. I know I could hire a guide, but I am a do it yourselfer. I know 3 years from now is a lot of time, but it's great for planning and saving money. Also if I did swap hunts with someone, that would give each of us time to learn about one another. And learn about each other area, and hunting style, to see if we would be compatible hunting partners. I also think it would not be good, to go on both of the hunts in the same year. I wouldn't have a problem taking someone elk hunting one year, then the next year going east to hunt deer. Thanks.

I used it about 2 years ago and just completed my end of the swap this past spring by successfully harvesting 2 beautiful Osceola turkeys on my lease in Central Florida. My hunters were from Iowa and they said they had the time of their lives. Hopefully, I will draw a deer tag and go to Iowa and hunt trophy whitetail on their property this fall. I didn't draw last year. As far as the experience, so far I've been pleased. The correspondence with the fellows from Iowa have been excellent and I feel like I've made a couple of new hunting buddies!

Another option would be to hunt some of the great public land across this country. A friend and I went up to Illinois this past season and hunted public land for a few days. We saws lots of deer and the best thing was we almost had the entire place to ourselves. And I talking within 20 miles of the infamous Pike County.

Also, I have a place here in MS, we might could work something out. I would love to come out west. Send me an email sometime and we can discuss it.

I have never used the swap hunt, but have hunted with several members of this site. Pat Ely from Pa, Irishman from NY state, Dalliwhacker from Ak, Trouthunter from Idaho, Youngfart from Alberta Canada. I have had a great time with each and everyone of these guys. I have definately made some new friends and got to see some different country.

I wouldn't mind a hunt swap. I would only do it if I still had access to my honey hole. There I can assure you a look at a monster buck plus all the 130 class you want. I can't predict the future but right now I don't see any reason why I would loose the access. It is one incredable spot and next fall I will try to take along a camera to share some photos of it.
