RE: Cabelas Archery Catalog

That's very true. When I got mine today, I immediately went around the shop comparing prices. I found my prices to be as good or better than most of what is in that catalog. I therefore hung the catalog from a string right in front of my work station with a sign - "Check our prices - PLEASE!"

Frank: This is another idea that I forgot to pass on to you last week. Most think that a local PRO Shop can't compete -- WRONG.
I really think that their having "better prices" is a misconception for many people. I did much the same thing as you Len and came to the same conclusion.

Oh, and thank you again. Those seminar notes you sent me went over very well with the local shop owner. He has made some changes in recent weeks. Only time will tell if they have a signficant impact.

RE: Cabelas Archery Catalog

It's not so much the prices as they are all pretty close........it is the convenience. I can call Cabela's in the middle of the night sitting on my couch and order a bunch of various stuff I may have to go 3 different places to round up at home.

3 days later some guy drops off a nice big box right at my door.

People often fail to account for time spent when they consider cost of a purchase. My time is worth more to me then shaving a couple bucks. If you waste an hour or two of your day chasing something all over town to save a little money you're missing the point.

BTW.....I can't find any of the new WB replacement discs anywhere locally.......so Cabela's is my only option unless I want to wait until the season approaches, which I don't.

Plus you build up points towards free stuff when you order from them.

My prices are right there. When you factor in installation and all my vast knowledge that comes with the product[8D] - Its a real steal......LOL:D

Frank, I know that this thread has not been here for three weeks but I thought I would reply anyway........lol;).

BY the way that is a good one BG......Frank Is Retired:).

I did the same thing that Len did. COmpared prices. NOT much difference at all. As much as everyone hates to admit it price is EVERYTHING. I get hammered everyday to match a price on one thing or the other. Service gets them and keeps them but Price is usually going to win in the end.

On a side note I was at CABELAS last weekend and if they would have to rely on service then FORGET IT!!. I was there almost 4 hours and NOT ONE "cabelas outfitter" as they call each other. Approached me and asked me if I needed anyhing. And they were not busy. I was the only one in flyshop and not 1 of the 5 "outfitters" asked me if I needed anything. [:'(][:@] I guess they are to used to the catalog sales where they just fill and place orders and do not have to "DEAL" with an actually living human being.[8D] BUt I am not bitter. BY the way, the "bargain cave" is a joke IMHO. All it is is a bunch of returned items that is barley discounted.

I will have to say that the store is very nice and great to look at but that is it. If they ever had to rely on customer service they would be hurting.

Just my ramblings[8D][&:]

RE: Cabelas Archery Catalog

My post was in no way intended to discredit Cabela's or any other mass merchant. My intent was to make it known that some of us Dealers can be very competitive and also provide much better service on a different level.

While I don't have 24 hours operators waiting to take your call, anyone can call during normal business hours and order whatever they want. When they order, the customer is usually told their options; something that would be rare for an operator to offer.

As detailed in my seminar papers to Frank, the mass merchants have a very important role in this and other markets. While they can't provide the same level of service that a good PRO Shop can provide, they do fill the needs for those who don't have a GOOD PRO Shop or live in the vast rural areas of our nation.

I could go on about the pros and cons of the 'system'; but, I won't. Leave it to say that we all provide services. The level of service that you require will dictate your actions. The level of service that you get will dictate your actions. And the level of service that you understand will dictate your actions.

Good shooting to all.

Len, My intent was not to bash or discount any large store , especially cabelas. However I do feel price is a big thing to look at, sorry PABOWHUNTER, I get pounded on a daily basis about prices. I agree with you Len the smaller pro shops do offer a different kind of service and I think that is something that you cannot get at a lrger box store, that is all I wanted to say. I think that Cabelas has a jaw dropping store, I was in awe when I pulled into the parking lot let alone when I went int the store. Sorry if it came off that way Len.[:-];)[8D]

Nothing like getting the spring catalogs and commence foaming at the mouth.

I like the looks of the new summit climber, I need to add it to my "wants list"!

RE: Cabelas Archery Catalog

I got mine the other day and I always like looking through it. There is another catalog that I get that I think is better and that is the Keystone Country Store archery catalog. Don't know why I started getting it but it is great. Their prices are also better and they have more of a selection when it comes to releases, sights, arrow rests, ect. You might want to look this one up on the net and order a catalog from them. A bow hunter can never have enought drooling and dreaming material.
