A buddy and I hunted a private spot near our homes in early December of 2001. We hit the second rut just right one evening. I sat for just over 2 hours and saw 52 deer with 14 different bucks coming by. Sad thing was I never got a shot as all the deer were running all over and never stopped to let me shoot.
I hunted a management hunt this last January. The DNR put on the hunt and issued the municipality a special permit to remove deer after the season closed. I was lucky enough to be drawn for the hunt, it was the first time the area had ever been hunted. It was in a metro area surrounded by homes. We hunted in som pretty cold temps, in the -10 degree range so we were only able to sit for a couple hours at a time. I saw 35 on one sit and 37 on another sit. Both sits about 2 hours. We didn't shoot bucks on that hunt as it was for management purposes, but I saw several P&Y or better bucks within shooting range. I did manage to take out 4 does on that hunt.

MTE,
Please don't hesitate to ask if you need some help thinning out some of those deer. As broke and destitute as I am, I am pretty sure that I could scratch up the money to come up and help out a fellow forum member

I used to hunt this big grove, one night early in the fall I counted 20 walking out of this grove single file, like they were in a parade. This happend more than once.
Since then the grove changed owners and the new guy has pretty much ruined it by cutting down most of the big hardwoods and pushing all the brush in the grove 15-20yds. What a shame![:@]

Normal hunt I see 12 to 24 with most of them with in 15 yrds morning and night with very few times(1 a year) with out one with in shooting distance. Unfortunately they are mostly yearlings and does but ussually have bucks to the 140 class. When you get in these situations you tell me if deer don't look up. It is also much more difficult to shoot one because of the # of eyeballs.
2 times I had 4 dozen feeding below me but all were yearlings and Doe's. That was a trip. My last hunt of the 2003-2004 season I beat that record hands down with 60++ and at least 30 were bucks with 8 - 140 class. This was very predictable since they just finished the controled hunts in the neighboring park.
I got to see everything that night except I didn't see the big boy. I saw a button buck mount his mom but there was a major height problem. He went for his sister but a 6 point made him change his mind. I watched a lot of sparing going on for an hour out in the field. What ever you read about in the mags when it pertains to hunting in the country is very different when hunting in neighborhoods.
By the way this is my new honey hole that I gained access to this past year. With any luck I will have access to it for a long time.
